Canal St-Martin is where Parisians come to take a break from the city life. You can walk, you can bike, you can dine and even shop. Napoleon was responsible for the construction of the canal in the early 1800's. Back then, many poor people were living here, unlike today, where the rich crowd apartments with a view of the canal. On the weekends, the streets along the canal are turned into biking and pedestrian areas. When you are hungry, you can eat at any one of the restaurants along the canal.
