The Hebridean Way - 1st on YouTube! (156miles/247km walking route) September 2017

This is our adventure on Britain's newest long distance walking route The Hebridean Way in September 2017. We completed the 156 mile walk in 11 days and this is the first video on YouTube on the completed walking route.

If you are thinking of backpacking this route and want some information leave a comment and I'll get back to you.

I will warn you though that the route in some places is not very well waymarked and there are long stretches of road walking to contend with along with very exposed moorland crossings. Think of the Rannoch Moor crossing on the West Highland Way then times it by 10 !

Also, apart from the Machair Way, you will be following waymarkers through pathless marshland where no one has walked before these markers were placed. Only near the end of the trail, before the 9 mile road walk to Lews Castle, you will actually walk on established paths again like The Coffin Route and The Scholars' Path.

You will also need to carry water in the south part of the islands because freshwater is scarce.

It is a long, lonely walk but it will reward you with landscape like nowhere else on the British Isles and the people of the Hebrides are so far beyond hospitable that a new word should be added to the dictionary just for them! :-)

CalMac Five Ferry Challenge - ScotVlog2017 Volume 2

Five CalMac ferries in one day, taking in the islands of Bute and Arran on a circular motorcycle tour. Motorcycling in Scotland doesn't get much better than this. Dougal the Dog rides the motorbike too, as we take in Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries from Claonaig to Lochranza, Brodick to Ardrossan, Wemyss Bay to Rothesay, Rhubodach to Colintraive, and from Portavadie to Tarbert Loch Fyne. On the Isle of Arran we stop for lunch at the Dog-Friendly cafe, the Fiddlers. All this on a Triumph Thruxton Motorcycle. If you're doing a tour of Scotland, this makes for an ideal daytrip - or you can take a little longer and spend more time on the islands.

This video shows a great spot for Motorhome wild camping at Cuil Bay, Duror, just off the A828 between Oban and Fort William. This is beautiful and peaceful place with some fine coastal views across to the islands of Balnagowan, Shuna and Lismore.

Newborough Forest to Ynys Llanddwyn

In this video I take you on a walk from Newborough Forest to Ynys Llanddwyn (Llanddwyn Island), the home of Santes Dwynwen - the Welsh saint of love. Dydd Santes Dwynwent (St Dwynwen's Day) is celebrated on the 25th January.

The island is also a popular location with filmmakers, having appeared in Half Light (Demi Moore) and Clash of the Titans (Sam Worthington).

The walk starts at the car park in Newborough Forest, just south from the village of Newborough. From the car park, follow the road westwards through the forest before joining Llanddwyn beach. From here, follow the shore on your left until you reach the island. Being an island, access to it does depend on the tide (as I found out filming this video!). I tend to walk around the island in a counter-clockwise direction, but the routes come back to the same point, so it's entirely up to you. After walking around the island, re-trace your steps back to the car park.
