Ryeberg Home Movie: Jewish Cemetery, Koenigshoffen, Strasbourg
The Koenigshoffen Quarter in west Strasbourg, first settled by Roman immigrants, and once occupied by the finest beer makers in Alsace, has its share of religious sites and monuments, among them this Jewish Cemetery. The cemetery, built in 1801, has the tombs of many notable Strasbourgeois, doctors, musicians, businessmen, military and religious men, so many that it was designated a national historical monument in 2002. The bells sound in the tower of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, built in the 1910s.
