The Nepalese Honey That Makes People Hallucinate
Nepal’s Gurung people live mostly in small villages in the vast Annapurna mountain ranges. In this remote region, they practice an ancient tradition of honey hunting where they descend towering cliffs on handmade ladders, to harvest honey nestled under jagged overhangs.
In spring, the Gurung’s honey contains a rare substance called grayanotoxin from rhododendron flowers that’s known for its intoxicating effects. While some accounts say it’s a deadly poison, others refer to it as an aphrodisiac, powerful medicine, and a hallucinogenic drug.
VICE travelled deep into the Annapurna mountains to join a Gurung village on their spring hunt and understand Mad Honey's effects.

Lyrics:
This is a man's world
This is a man's world
But it would be nothing, nothing
Without a woman or a girl
You see, man made the car
To take us over the road
Man made the train
To carry the heavy load
Man made the electrolight
To take us out of the dark
Man made the boat for the water
Like Noah made The Ark

Top 4 Political Stories of the Day
Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday approved the establishment of anti-terror rapid-response forces at the federal and provincial levels, with quality and trained manpower, the leading Pakistani daily The Dawn reported. Sharif also issued directions to immediately establish a National Intelligence Directorate under National Counter-Terrorism Authority in a bid to strengthen coordination between military and civilian agencies. The decision was made during a high-level meeting attended by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Army chief General Raheel Sharif, ISI chief Lt-Gen Zahirul Islam, and all provincial chief ministers.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's move Tuesday to begin the annexation of Crimea place him on the wrong side of history in the eyes of Secretary of State John Kerry. Kerry offered the first high-level response to Putin's defiant speech laying claim to Crimea as a historic part of Russia and criticizing the U.S. and Europe's response to the crisis in front of an audience of students at the State Department. Kerry said it was clear that Russia had intended to complete its annexation of Crimea, and issued a stern warning against further Russian incursions into Eastern Ukraine by Putin's government.
Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee Tuesday nominated her nephew Abhishek Banerjee as a party candidate for the Lok Sabha to help him learn. On introducing Abhishek to the party workers and the state chief minister, Banerjee said that since childhood her nephew has wanted to be in politics. He has actually been in politics for years, said Banerjee at the Trinamool workers' meeting. In the polls held five years ago, Trinamool's Somen Mitra was elected by the same constituency Abhishek would represent, but Mitra quit as an MP to rejoin the Congress earlier this year.
Israel told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday it might not carry out a final stage of a Palestinian prisoner release unless he commits to prolonging peace talks beyond a U.S.-set April deadline for a deal.
Israel's chief negotiator, Tzipi Livni, issued the warning just a day after Abbas, at a White House meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama aimed at keeping the talks alive, voiced hope the prisoners would go free by March 29.
