Cidades: Amarillo (Texas - EUA)

FREE Riverside Camping in the Texas Hill Country... Junction, TX
March 15, 2018
My road trip continues but not without a three day break in the Texas Hill Country. IH10 Exit 456 takes me into the charming little Texas town of Junction. The city park, also known as Schreiver Park allows three days of camping at no charge. And I was able to park next to the Llano river.
I'll remember this stop for my next pass through.
Please Enjoy!

Ft Griffin State Historic Site - Texas State Historic Site
Fort Griffin State Historic Site - Texas State Historic Site
In October of 2018, the Two Tired Teachers visited Fort Griffin State Historic Site right in the middle of nowhere Texas.
Notice, if you have a Texas State Park Pass, it will not defray any of the cost of this park.
The camping part of Fort Griffin is across the highway from the historic part.
Some of the campsites have water and electric, some that are full hookups, and a few that are walk in sites with water only. A couple of the campsites are pull up sites; you pull off the road and the campsite is parallel to your vehicle.
To get to the creek at the park, you have to climb down (and eventually back up) some rather steep steps without a rail.
Fort Griffin does have a longhorn herd. It is on both sides of the park -- the campground and the historic part.
The historic site has a fun information area with many hands on activities. The information building also offered several videos about the people and places.
This historic site has many recreated historic buildings. One of the most fun thing was driving the golf carts from building to building, Driving the golf carts was new to us, and we have more fun than we'd had in a long time.
A third area of the historic site has been sold to a private family, but they let you visit those buildings.
Sharon and her dogs almost had an up close and personal meeting with a skunk. Fortunately, the skunk went on his way, and no one got sprayed.
If you plan on visiting Fort Griffin State Historic Site, you might want to make reservations because you will find no where else to camp for more than 50 miles.
