Loimaa is a town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Southwest Finland region. The municipality has a population of 16,106 and covers an area of 851.93 square kilometres of which 3.96 km2 is water. The population density is 18.99 inhabitants per square kilometre . The town of Loimaa merged with Loimaan kunta on January 1, 2005 and with the municipalities of Alastaro and Mellilä on January 1, 2009. Loimaa's neighbouring municipalities are Huittinen, Humppila, Koski Tl, Marttila, Oripää, Punkalaidun, Pöytyä, Somero, Säkylä and Ypäjä.

North-west from Helsinki, it is the second-closest national park to the capital behind the recently established Sipoonkorpi National Park. The name is derived from the Nuuksio district of Espoo. Located less than 30 kilometers from downtown Helsinki, the park can easily be reached by public transportation. Bus 245A leaves from Espoon keskus to Nuuksionpää and Kattila during daytime.
