Lumbarda is a small town situated on the eastern cape of the island Korcula. It is unique for its untouched picturesque scenery, rugged coastline and crystal clear sea that surrounds the sandy beaches which are rare in the Adriatic; the rich history preserved in documents dated more than two millennia; near the beautiful town of Korčula; shady olive groves; great varieties of wine grapes which fails elsewhere; preserved folk customs, culinary specialties of local cuisine. . . But most of all - its kind hosts.
Lumbarda ist ein kleiner Ort an der Ostküste der Insel Korčula gelegen. Üppige Vegetation, Makija, Pinienwälder, zahlreiche Sorten von aromatischen Kräutern, Olivenhaine, Weingärten des bekannten „GRKS“, malerische Landschaft, kristallklares Meer und wunderschöne Sandstrände schmucken die Umgebung von Lumbarda.
Interessant ist der Ort wegen seiner gegliederten Küste, und der sehr schönen Sandstrände, die an der Adria eine Seltenheit sind. Archäologische Befunde, alte Kastells und Kapellen zeugen von reicher, über 2000 Jahre alten Geschichte Lumbardas.
Reiche Volkstradition, einheimische Spezialitäten und vor allem gastfreundliche Gastgeber ziehen viele Touristen an.
Lumbarda est une petite ville située au cap est de l’île boisée de Korčula. Elle se distingue par ses paysages pittoresques préservés, sa côte échancrée et sa mer propre et limpide qui l’entoure, ses plages de sables qui sont un phénomène rare en Adriatique, sa riche histoire conservée dans des sources écrites vieilles de plus de deux siècles, la proximité de la magnifique ville de Korčula, ses plantations d’oliviers ombragées, son vin produit à base de sortes de raisins cultivables nul par ailleurs, ses coutumes populaires préservés, ses spécialités culinaires locales…mais par dessus tout, par la convivialité de ses habitants.

Long history of Lumbarda
Throughout its history, Lumbarda was a region of overlap of different peoples and cultures. The first inhabitants were the Illyrians, who ruled the island of Korčula during the Bronze and the Iron Ages. Their artifacts are mainly the graves and strategic stone stacks, concentrated primarily in the western areas of Lumbarda.
With the arrival of Greeks in the Adriatic, the island emerged from historical anonymity to become known as Korkyra Melaina (Black Korkyra). This area was of great importance to the Greeks because at the Black Corcyra; they have raised even two of its colonies. The later colony was founded in the 3rd century, in Lumbarda, on Korčula.
Lumbardian Psephisma
Witness of this historic event is the most famous and most ancient stone inscription found on the Croatian soil. This is a Lumbardian “Psephisma” held by the Zagreb Archeological Museum. The decree details are those of the founding of the colony. The text reveals that the Lumbardian colony was founded by Greeks from the island of Issa, which is today's Vis.
Lumbarda summer (Lumbarajske užance)
When you visit Lumbarda you will have something to see or do every day. Lumbarda hosts a series of events under the name Lumbarajske užance every summer. What awaits you there?
It's good that you've asked because the offer is very rich and has something for everyone. You can enjoy cultural events like art exhibitions and poetry readings. If you're in the mood for some more lively activities you can try water aerobic, beach volleyball, soccer, donkey races and many other interesting things.
The children will have loads of fun too; they can learn how to swim, play various fun water games, take part in sand castle building competitions, join art workshops and play under the keen eye of animators.
BEACHES!
Lumbarda beaches will make you feel like you're in some movie! It has a number of very fine sandy beaches, a true rarity on the Adriatic. Let's look at some of them:
Beach Vela Pržina is located on the South coast and offers the largest stretch of open sands. As such it is perfect for games and activities and offers a great view all the way to Lastovo.
Beach Bilin Žal is a sandy beach on the eastern shores of Lumbarda. The beach is made up of small and soft golden to gray sand as well as of some larger rocks which are adjacent to the slabs of Lenga Beach. Being a sandy beach and one of the best known beaches on the Island, Bilin Zal is very popular and very busy in the summer time, crowded with tourists from town as well as from Lumbarda and beyond. Locals are also regular visitors, especially if they have a young children.
If you're not a fan of sand beaches you will enjoy Lenga and Raznjic beaches, both of which are rocky beaches which offer crystal clear sea and beautiful views.
