Lefkas or Lefkada is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece, connected to the mainland by a long causeway and floating bridge. The principal town of the island and seat of the municipality is Lefkada.
The east coast section of the island has small resorts of Lygia, Nikiana and Perigiali, all north of Nidri, the largest resort on the island. It is set in a sheltered location with views across to Skorpios—formerly owned by Aristotle Onassis, Meganissi and other small islands, as well as the Greek mainland. The main coastal road from Lefkada to Vasiliki runs through the village, although a bypass has now been completed which skirts the village to the west. There are regular car ferries to Kefalonia, Ithaca and Meganissi.
20 kilometres (12 miles) south of Nidri is the resort of Vasiliki, a windsurfing center. There are ferries to Kefalonia and Ithaca from Vasiliki. South of Vasiliki is Cape Lefkada, where the Greek female poet Sappho allegedly leapt to her death from the 30 m high cliffs.
The famous beach of Porto Katsiki is located on Lefkada's west coast. Lefkada was attached to mainland Greece (see above about Homer's Ithaca being Lefkada). The Corinthians dug a trench in the 7th century BC on its isthmus.
The first museum in Europe for Lafcadio Hearn, who was born on the island and is named after it, was inaugurated in Lefkada on July 4, 2014, as Lafcadio Hearn Historical Center. It contains early editions, rare books and Japanese collectibles.

Nikiana Lefkada, Greece (Νικιάνα Λευκάδα)
Nikiana is a small fishing village with a picturesque harbour which is a popular overnight stop for private yachts. It is located at a distance of 9 kilometres away from Lefkada Town and 7 kilometres away from the popular village of Nidri. Nikiana consists of sand and pebbles, crystalline waters and an enchanting landscape that attracts many visitors. There are a lot of tavernas, cafeterias, restaurants. Nikiana’s location is ideal for touring the island or for island hopping. Due to its beautiful surroundings with the rich vegetation, the olive trees and cypresses, the place is favoured by those seeking some relaxation. The mountainous terrain of the area is ideal for walks or off road driving. The location of the village offers panoramic views of the East coast and the mountains of the mainland. Even though Nikiana is a quiet resort, there are a lot of tavernas, local bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a drink or have a meal if you don’t want to go to the Lefkada town. Agios Nikitas is a small fishing village located 13 km southwest of Lefkada Town and very close to Kathisma beach. The picturesque beach that lies in front of the settlement consists of sand and brilliant crystal clear waters.
