मधुबनी जिला भारत के बिहार राज्य के अड़तीस जिलों में से एक है और मधुबनी शहर इस जिले का प्रशासनिक मुख्यालय है। मधुबनी जिला दरभंगा डिवीजन का हिस्सा है। जिले में 3,501 वर्ग किलोमीटर (1,352 वर्ग मील) का क्षेत्रफल है और इसकी आबादी 4,487,37 9 है (2011 तक)। मधुबनी 1972 में एक नया जिला बन गया था, इसे दरभंगा जिले से विभाजित किया गया था। ऐसा माना जाता है कि बालीराजगढ़ जो आधुनिक मध्य मधुबनी जिले में स्थित एक जगह है जो प्राचीन मिथिला साम्राज्य की राजधानी थी। । ऐसा कहा जाता है कि मधुबनी दुनिया का दूसरा शहर है जिसने लोकतंत्र अपनाया था। इसमें 21 विकास खंड शामिल हैं। उत्तर में नेपाल और दक्षिण में अपने मूल जिले दरभंगा, पश्चिम में सीतामढ़ी और पूर्व में सुपौल से घिरा हुआ है।

We stayed in rural Bihar in a place called 'Dona' named after Dronacharya where we walked barefooted in the field. As we took a road trip from Patna to Rajgir, Nalanda, Dona and Bodh Gaya; We not only had local delicacies such as Khaja :), we walked past the ruins of popular Nalanda University, the Pagodas and the land of Buddha in Bodhgaya!
