Lecco is a city on the southeastern shore of Lake Como, in northern Italy. It’s surrounded by mountains like Monte Resegone, with trails for all levels, and the Piani d’Erna lookout point, accessed by cable car. Monte Barro Regional Park has paths, plus the remains of a 5th-century settlement and the Costa Perla birdwatching station. In the city center is the Basilica di San Nicolò, with its neo-Gothic bell tower.
Lecco is a city of 48,131 inhabitants in Lombardy, northern Italy, 50 kilometres (31 mi) north of Milan, the capital of the province of Lecco. It lies at the end of the south-eastern branch of Lake Como (the branch named Lake of Lecco / Lago di Lecco). The Bergamo Alps rise to the north and east, cut through by the Valsassina of which Lecco marks the southern end. The lake narrows to form the river Adda, so bridges were built to improve road communications with Como and Milan. There are four bridges crossing the river Adda in Lecco: the Azzone Visconti Bridge (1336–1338), the Kennedy Bridge (1956) and the Alessandro Manzoni Bridge (1985) and a railroad bridge. Its economy used to be based on industry (iron manufacturers), but now it is mainly tertiary. Lecco was also Alpine Town of the Year 2013.
Archaeological finds demonstrate the presence of Celtic settlement in the area before the arrival of the Romans. The latter built a castrum here and made it an important road hub. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the Lombards captured the town in the 6th century; they were followed by the Franks, who made Lecco the seat of a countship and, later, of a frontier Mark.
Emperor Otto I spent a long time in Lecco, crushing the 964 AD revolt against the Holy Roman Empire led by Lecco's Count Attone. Later it became a possession of the Milanese monastery of St. Ambrose. Conrad II also stayed in Lecco, in the attempt to free it from the church, but as the result of the ensuing wars the city was subjected by Milan. It subsequently followed the history of the Duchy of Milan and of Lombardy. In the early 16th century it was briefly ruled by the condottiere Gian Giacomo Medici.

Places to see in ( Bolzano - Italy ) Piazza Walther
Walther square is in the centre of the old town of Bolzano. Here take place the Christmas Market and the Flower Market. Alone in December each year Walther square attracts almost a million visitors to Bolzano's Christmas market which takes place in the square, while hundreds of thousand of tourists sit at pavement cafes throughout the year to soak up the winter sun or enjoy the shade during Bolzano's hot, dry summers.
In the middle of the square is the statue of Walther von der Vogelweide (ca. 1168 - ca. 1228). Near Walther square are the Cathedral, the train station, various banks and shops and the arcades. Walther square was build in the year 1808 on a vineyard which was owned by the Bavarian royal family. King Maximilian sold it to Bolzano's town council for 3,000 florins on condition that it was made into a square.
Initially it was a large area of packed earth, around which buildings grew up, above all hotels alongside Hotel Greif (Grifone), the successor to the inn Zum Schwarzen Greif which dated back to the 16th century. They were built to cater for the elite tourists which flocked to the town, especially from the court of Vienna. By then the town was already becoming popular as a tourist destination due to its beauty, mild climate and its centre which had preserved its medieval character almost intact.
The square's most distinctive feature is the monument erected in 1889 in memory of the great poet and bard Walther von der Vogelweide. It was removed during the fascist era (1935), then returned after the Second World War. The square's name also changed several times: from Maximilian-Platz in honour of the King of Bavaria, then Johanns-Platz, then Walther-Platz, followed by King Vittorio Emanuele, Madonna and finally once again Walther von der Vogelweide.
Various armies paraded in the square: Bavarians during the Napoleonic Wars, Austro-Hungarians, Italians, Germans and the present-day army of the Italian Republic. It has been the venue for appearances by Emperor Franz Joseph, then his successor Karl I and his consort Zita, King Vittorio Emanuele III and Mussolini.
