The Ruta 40 is probably one of the most famous road on earth. Call it Argentina's Road 66, it's a beautiful highway that goes on for almost 5000 kilometers from La Quiaca, North in the Andes to Tierra del Fuego in the remote South part of the country.
In this video, you will have a glimpse at what the road looks like. We only travel the south part of the road from Mendoza to Ushuaia. The north must be amazing as well knowing that it highest point stays at 4895m above the sea level !

Las Leñas Ski Resort - Mendoza, Argentina
Las Leñas es uno de los centros de esquí y de snowboard más importantes de Argentina. Se encuentra ubicado en el valle homónimo al sur de la provincia de Mendoza en el noroeste del departamento Malargüe, y en el interior de la cordillera de Los Andes.
VALLE HERMOSO LAS LEÑAS Malargue
Apasionante el trayecto de las Leñas a Valle Hermoso con su Laguna, unos 30 kilómetros de camino ripiado y con piedra suelta, sinuoso y en parte de corniza. Vale la pena esos kilómetros que se hacen en unas dos horas, parando y yendo tranquilo porque tampoco lo permite la ruta provincial 222 que de momentos es un sendero.Pero apreciar esas vistas, esos picos cordilleranos de alta montaña, con glaciares colgantes y un aire puro que se respira, quizás distinto por la altitud. Es un espectáculo único, agreste con el valle que te acompaña en todo el camino con arroyos y el afluente del río Salado, toma como mínimo 25 a 30 fotos, los cerros de todos los colores y altitudes, con ligeras pendientes esteparias en algunos lugares. Como broche de Oro tenemos el mirador hacia el Valle Hermoso con un camino que baja en forma abrupta. El paisaje es hermoso. Ahí mismo hay un monolito recordatorio de un proyecto de hidráulica sobre el río Tordillo y otro mas, que pareciera que llego la libertadora ni se puede leer porque quitaron la leyenda pareciera con un cortafierro, y es de los años 50, solo una anécdota.
Conclusión paga la pena ir, en verano, llevar abrigo igual porque las altitudes varían mucho las temperaturas llegando a veces a menos de 10 grados cuando baja el sol o de mañana. Tomar la precaución de llevar algo de comer y liquido, porque la proveduria a veces no esta equipada, y llevar dinero porque no aceptan plástico y a mi gusto es algo caro el servicio por lo que brindan, poco aseo en el baño. Es una excursión para todo el dia aunque este a unos 100 Kilómetros de Malargue, salir bien temprano y como van a querer hacer la cascada y el pozo de las Animas yo aconsejo parar en los Molles que ahí hay un hotel con termas que no es gran cosa pero se pasa la noche y levantarse temprano. En las Leñas es muy frecuente no conseguir alojamiento fuera de temporada. Salvo que vayan a acampar en la laguna Valle Hermoso. Otra Situación precaución en la ruta porque hay animales sueltos y muchos!!!, no fiarse del terreno porque hay piedra suelta y el coche derrapa. En mi opinión se puede hacer el viaje con un auto, la 4x4 es para los que van hacia el oeste debido a que hay que vadear arroyos, y si no van a pescar ni conviene arriesgarse atravesar mas allá del servicio. La laguna es otra mas de tantas, le pone verdor al pasto que crece en un sitio plano, se pesca alguna trucha.

En 1 hora y 30 minutos y con un viaje extremadamente tranquilo llegamos a tierras mendocinas y fuimos hacia nuestro hotel.
