Aore Island is an island in Sanma Province, Vanuatu. It is located opposite Luganville on Espiritu Santo and has an area of 58 km².

Nearby, popular dive sites include the sunken SS President Coolidge cruise liner and Million Dollar Point’s submerged U.S. war machinery.

Tanna is an island in Vanuatu, an archipelago country in the South Pacific. On the southeast coastIt’s known for Mount Yasur, an active volcano with frequent explosions from its vents. To the east, Port Resolution is a natural harbor with nearby hot springs, a freshwater lake and a beach. The villages of Sulphur Bay and Imanaka are known for their devotion to the John Frum religious movement.

The town is a base for diving and trips to Mele Cascades, a multi-tiered waterfall with rock pools in a rainforest.

Vanuatu is an archipelago nation consisting of 83 islands in the southwest Pacific Ocean, north of New Zealand and east of Australia. With such a large north-south area, Vanuatu has all the tropical variances possible. From hot and humid in the north, to mild and dry in the south. Vanuatu is a Pacific island adventure far beyond any notions of cruise-ship ports and flashy resorts. Deserted beaches, ancient culture, remote and rugged islands and world-class diving are just a small part of the magnetism of this scattered 80-plus island archipelago.
The islands of Vanuatu are grouped into six geographic provinces, the names formed by combining the first syllables or letters of the major islands in each.

The national airline, Air Vanuatu, operates domestic flights throughout the islands. Comfortable daily flights in the 72 seater ATR aircraft connect Port Vila with Santo and Tanna, but elsewhere, domestic flights are a very different experience from flying internationally with Air Vanuatu. There are two ferry boats operating regularly on the route Vila - Santo: 1: Vanuatu Ferry and the Big Sista. Both ships are fairly comfortable. In Port Vila the buses are mini vans seating about 10 people, which largely traverse the main road and go and stop where you would like them to go. You can easily identify a bus as their licence plate starts with a B. Taxis are plentiful within Port Vila. Fare is calculated per taxi. You can easily tell and tax as their licence plate starts with a T. Within Vila Town, the taxi is 500 vatu for everyone inside, so if you have more than 3 people, it's cheaper than a bus.
The Vanuatu people are a delight to photograph, friendly, co-operative and photogenic especially the children who are simply gorgeous. Yes, they love to be photographed but please do not offer to pay to photograph local people as this will quickly discourage spontaneity and encourage commercialisation. Always ask before taking photos of local people.
There are many restaurants and eateries in Port Vila, ranging from up-market places catering to tourists and expats, to more low-key establishments. The main markets in Port Vila and Luganville have sections selling cheap rice meals.
Around Port Vila and Luganville there is a range of accommodation, from dorm beds to luxury resorts. Prices are not super cheap by developing-country standards but there's a reasonable amount of moderately-priced accommodation. Eating out is expensive in Port Vila so self-catering is a good option for those on a budget. In Port Vila, you can pay as little as 2000 VT a night if you're prepared to slum it; for something reasonably nice you'll be looking at 5-10,000 VT. Luxury options are considerably more.
On rural islands, accommodation is provided mostly by small family-run guest bungalows. These are usually friendly and charming but very basic in terms of facilities (though Tanna has a couple of better-developed accommodation options). Some church missions also have guestrooms. Prices for basic rural accommodation typically range from 1,000 to 3,000VT per person per night. Rural bungalows usually also provide meals, as there are generally no alternative eating options other than breakfast crackers and tinned spam from the village store.

On my 9-months-worldtrip I spent two weeks in Vanuatu to visit friends I met in 2013 on a farm in Australia (because people from Vanuatu often come there to work). In this video I take you to the island of Epi which is one of the eight main islands and show you how people live there. I felt in another world on Epi and this experience changed my view to the world. On one hand it is a paradise but on the other it is a hard life, too. People harvast their own food, go fishing and garding to feed their family. Everything else has to be imported for high costs. Island Dresses of Vanuatu.
Revealing and sexy clothing (especially wearing beach wear in the capital) is not advisable, as over 100 years of missionary work has had its effect on the perception of what is considered as respectable attire in the islands. Regardless, it's considered disrespectful to the local people and can be interpreted by some indigenous inhabitants as an invitation for sex.
As Vanuatu is not a 'fashion conscious' place no-one will notice or care if you were wearing the latest from 'the Paris Collection' or not. We do suggest that you bring all year round: Easy to hand wash, practical tropical wardrobe such as light cotton summer clothes; a 'sloppy joe' pullover; light weight waterproof wind jacket. If planning to go to the outer islands, bring a good torch (with spare batteries, you will use them!), lightweight, walking shoes, sandals for wet weather or good thongs (flip flops/croks) and old clothes.
Our Win Win Tip: When exploring the outer islands take all the older clothes you can carry, wear them and give them away to the islanders when you are finished wearing them. You and your children will be aptly rewarded in other ways. Instead of dumping your worn clothes in a charity collection bin at your local shopping centre and never knowing who really receives these (if they ever do...), your children will interact with the very people who would be the recipients of those clothes (most NiVanuatu people buy these second hand clothes from shops in Port Vila).
Many of our past clients have commented on how their previously self indulgent kids were quite different after their giving experience in Vanuatu. Sharing and giving is a natural course of daily life in Vanuatu. The T-shirt you give to one person will be worn by all his friends as well. Three T-shirts on top of each other will be their winter outfit.... You will provide them things that are hard for them to obtain, save them the expense of buying clothes (basic wages are quite low in Vanuatu) and you will depart with priceless memories, plus have more in your luggage for purchased local arts and crafts.

The Malekula SW Bay festival happens each August and is organized by several communities located close to each others: Lambinwen (Yacht Club), Ten Stick, Wintua and Labo.
Each year, this 3-4-day festival is a highlight of any cultural experience in Vanuatu.

By organizing this festival, the organizers raise some money for the local communities ... so visitors contributions go to community projects of local villages!
Do NOT expect to see many tourists at all as it takes some effort to get there! You will have to fly from Port Vila to either South West bay small airfield or go via 4x4 and speedboat transfer from Norsup/Lakatoro. You can stay at the local guest houses or even bring your camping gear!
You will see the famous Nalawan dance and participate to traditional village life. You will enjoy local food and do some good hiking.

Luganville is the second largest city of the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu. We had the opportunity on our cruise with the Sun Princess for a day to get to know this area in the South Sea. We bathed in the Blue Hole Matevulu, felt the South Sea feeling on the beachfront near Luganville and snorkeled a sunken helicopter wreck from World War II. Before leaving we visited the many souvenir shops and a small local cafe, a successful day, as so often in the South Seas with little sun.
Luganville ist die zweitgrößte Stadt des südpazifischen Inselstaates Vanuatu. Wir hatten die Gelegenheit auf unserer Kreuzfahrt mit der Sun Princess einen Tag lang diese Gegend in der Südsee kennenzulernen. Wir haben im Blue Hole Matevulu gebadet, an der Beachfront in der Nähe von Luganville das Südseefeeling gespürt und ein versenktes Helicopter Wrack aus dem zweiten Weltktieg beschnorchelt. Vor der Abreise haben wir noch die vielen Souvenierbuden und ein kleines einheimische Cafe's besucht, ein gelungener Tag, wie so oft in der Südsee mit wenig Sonne.
