We are back for the final video of our Philippines STREET FOOD series with FoodieMommaPH (her channel: In our final Filipino street food video Khee will be showing us the food and culture of her town outside of Manila - Marikina. Marikina has its own cuisine & flavours, and is PACKED with street food. This is FoodieMommaPH’s signature food tour and you can start booking this tour with Khee starting TODAY! Details above.
We start our morning at a street side stall serving up some thick and hot beef pares, where the beef is braised in stew, served with garlic rice and a delicious beef broth. The atmosphere was perfect and we were surrounded by locals enjoying a hearty breakfast before heading to work. All ingredients were of high quality!
Khee then shows us what Marikina is famous for - shoe making. Marikina produces the majority of the shoes for the Philippines. We take a quick visit to the shoe factory to learn how the shoes are made.
As we were still hungry, we head to the next local mom and pop shop serving up a very traditional version of pinoy goto. Goto is a type of congee (rice porridge), with strong garlic and ginger flavours, as well as beef chunks and beef blood. We ordered a side of palabok which Khee recommended. Everything was so delicious!
FoodieMommaPH then took us to a rare but very famous food to eat during special occasions: Rellenong Bangus. Rellenong Bangus is a deboned milkfish that is stuffed with its own meat and fried. It is similar to a meat loaf, but with fish! It was a very interesting dish with an even more interesting presentation. We tried their famous pickles and the two foods complimented each other well!
Chinese dishes have influenced many dishes in the Philippines, including our next dish which was fried noodles! Stir fried with vegetables and two different sized noodles, this is a dish for everyone! Cheap, delicious and guaranteed to fill you up! It was amazing to watch the chef prepare the dish over these massive woks with incredible speed!
For our final stop of the day, we had the opportunity to watch the preparation of two very classic and traditional Marikina foods. The first dish that was prepared by the friendly chef was Everlasting (which is known as the Marikina Meatloaf). It has earned the name Everlasting through the history of the dish. The chef told us that before refrigeration, locals needed to find ways to preserve dishes so that they lasted longer in the heat. With the specific ingredients used in Everlasting, the meat could last up to a week without refrigeration! Now that refrigeration exists, it can last even longer! The chef also introduced us to a similar dish and was kind enough to explain the preparation. Everything was so tasty!!!
A huge thank you to FoodieMommaPH for her incredible expertise along this journey through the Philippines. We can’t thank you enough. Head over to her social media for more on food, street food and travel in the Philippines!

5 fun things you can do around Manila during the rainy season
I have friends from different parts of the world who ask me if it is okay to visit the Philippines (specifically Manila), during the wet or rainy season. I know that during the rainy season, there is a chance that you could get stranded (miss your flight, or not be able to catch a boat), because there is low pressure or a full-blown typhoon in the area. But that does not stop us, Manila dwellers, from still living life to the fullest.
I have decided to create this tips vlog to assist all visitors and tourists in Manila, and for the people who live here, to figure out what to do instead of just trying to avoid doing anything fun during the rainy season.
Full disclosure! I do not advise doing any of these activities when there is a typhoon or a potential for flooding. Best you check the weather forecast and listen to the news for any information on upcoming typhoons or thunderstorms.
The rainy season in Manila starts around May to early November.

Manila's BEST Street Food Guide - FILIPINO FOOD in Quiapo + Binondo | Street Food in The Philippines
FIRST TIME IN THE PHILIPPINES!! Street Food Guide to Manila 2019!!!
We are teaming up with FoodieMommaPH (her channel: to bring you an entire street food series in Manila, Philippines! Today, Khee will be showing us the food and culture of Old Manila, around Quiapo Market and the oldest Chinatown in the world: Binondo! Thank you so much to FoodieMommaPH for making our trip in the Philippines unforgettable! She will be joining us for our entire MANILA STREET FOOD series, so go check out her channel!!!
We start our morning in front of Quiapo Church and try a classic street food style breakfast called taho, silken tofu, drizzled with brown sugar syrup and topped with tapioca pearls (1 cup 20 php/0.38 usd). Served out of a mobile bucket warm and fresh! Continuing through the market, Khee shows us some of her favourite childhood snacks. We stop to have some banana-cue, deep-fried bananas covered with brown sugar (15 php/0.29 usd each) as well as hot cakes (5 php/0.10 usd each) which are smothered in butter and sugar and served PIPING hot! So yummy, sweet and CHEAP!
Still hungry, we head straight for Chinatown in the heart of Manila to try some Filipino/Chinese specialties. Our first stop was to Dong Being Dumplings, an old “hole-in-the-wall” shop where dumplings are made fresh on site! We ordered 1 serving of their special pork dumplings (200 php/3.83 usd per plate). The ladies were whipping these dumplings up at record-breaking speeds! The dipping sauce was sour from vinegar and spicy from the chili oil. Delicious!
We then went deep into the Chinatown market to eat lumpia, the Philippines spring roll (70 php/1.34 usd each)! The wrapper is soft and holds together all of the delicious, and flavourful ingredients inside. Served fresh and with a side of chopped garlic for a full on FLAVOR BOMB!
Next up, we found a rare (bicycle) stall serving binatog (20 php/0.38 usd each). Binatog is a sweet dessert made up of boiled corn, coconut flakes, and sugar. There are salty versions too! It is a very unique food that we’ve never tasted before!
Next we try a Cantonese/Filipino steamed and fried bun called Siopao. We ordered several sweet pork buns (22 php/0.42 usd each) and ate them fresh street-side, and even more to take home for later! We finished our street food craze at a local institution, Barrio Fiesta, for halo-halo, to cool off and satisfy our sweet-tooth! We ordered the halo-halo special (170 php/3.26 usd) with bright purple ube (purple yam), candied fruits, jellies and MORE!
Thanks so much to FoodieMommaPH for showing us the incredible Quiapo Market and Chinatown in Metro Manila! Follow her for more Filipino street food and local eats in and around Manila!
