BEST Sushi So Far In Osaka and a Quick Visit to Nara - Japanese Food Travel in Osaka!
► Check out our Osaka Food Guide for details on restaurants in these videos:
On Day 12 in Osaka, Japan, we decided to first take a quick day trip to Nara, a city that’s about a 45 minute train ride from Osaka. We then returned to Osaka, and had some of the finest sushi I had during my trip there.
00:27 Trip to Nara - Nara is an old and historical town in Japan, not far from Osaka and Kyoto. It’s very easy to get there by public transportation. The first thing you’ll notice as soon as you arrive to Nara are the deer - they are free roaming all over the city, and people love to interact with them.
2:48 Todai-ji Temple - 500 JPY ($4.17) - One of the biggest and most famous temples in Nara is the Todai-ji Temple, and although it was intensely busy, we decided to pay the entrance fee and go inside. It was good to see, but it was a very busy day that we visited.
4:09 Lunch at Happoh Restaurant (和食屋 八寶) - After walking around Nara for a while, we headed back towards the train station, and had lunch at a restaurant called Happoh Restaurant (和食屋 八寶). The food was alright, but not the best. We then took the train back to Osaka to do some shopping and eating.
6:15 Tenjinbashisuji Shotengai - Tenjinbashisuji Shotengai is the longest shopping street in Japan, and it goes on for something like 2.6 km. We got back to Osaka, and walked around this area, before eating some amazing sushi.
7:23 Harukoma Sushi (春駒 支店) - While walking around the shopping market, I noticed a line of people, all waiting for a turn to get into Harukoma Sushi (春駒 支店), a famous sushi restaurant in Osaka. I had researched this restaurant and had wanted to eat here, but I didn’t know when we were going to get there, or where it was - but we stumbled into it, and decided to go straight in line to eat there. The sushi turned out to be some of the best sushi I had in Osaka. It wasn’t fancy, but it was good quality, big pieces of sushi and fish, and it felt like we were at a fish market. Awesome sushi, good prices, and friendly service.
Read more about this restaurant on my blog:
That was all for Day 12 in Osaka - it was another good day, and the sushi was the highlight for me.

Delicious Sushi in Tokyo Japan Midori Sushi is it Hype? - vlog #041 part 2
For the second half of the day we'll be leaving the Meiji Jingu in Shibuya and be heading on to our next destination which is the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku. If you're looking for free things to do in Tokyo you should check this place out. There are two observation decks that you can visit here which gives you a fantastic sky view of Tokyo. If it's not cloudy you can see Mt Fuji far away, Tokyo Tower, and some other cool sights in Tokyo. Sometimes one of the towers may be closed early however one of them will be opened till 11PM. Be sure though to give yourself about 2-3 hours to visit this area because the wait to go up and down is about 30 mins each if the line is long. I recommend you coming around the afternoon so you can see the sunset, which gives you some awesome time lapse footage.
For dinner we'll be heading over to Akasaka to eat and review Umegaoka Sushi no Midori. I've seen so many youtube videos, blogs, instagram pictures, and review on this restaurant and wondered if it was really good or if its just hype. Most of the reviews are located at the Shibuya location, however I decided to go to Akasaka because at the time I was guessing less people would travel here. I've passed by the Shibuya location a few times and the wait was always about 2 hours. The Akasaka location is located inside of a mall called Akasaka Sacas and is on the 2nd floor. When you get there you can put your name down in order to wait and select whether you want to sit at the counter or the table. I waited for about a hour, which was probably the longest hour ever since I was starving.
After being seated I ended up ordering the Chef's Special Assortment to kick things off. All of the items here on their menu are very affordable and my Chef's Special Assortment was 2800 yen which comes down to about 200 yen per piece! This is a steal for sushi at these prices and overall I really enjoyed it. If you're on a tight budget this place is a must try. I ended up ordering many other pieces to try on top of it as well. The quality of the seafood was top notch however the rice would sometimes fall apart but I can overlook that seeing how cheap this sushi was. The only piece I didn't really enjoy was the Herring Roe which has a crunchy texture similar to carrots. A callout for people who never tried Monk Fish Liver, it is similar to pate or foie gras so if you enjoy those you'll probably like it as well. Some of my favorite pieces here were the otoro, uni, negitoro roll, minced tuna gunkan, and the broiled pacific saury.
Overall I would say this place is about 4 out of 5 when comparing it in its price category. This is place to me is way better than Genki Sushi which is another really popular place people review on blogs and youtube. Sushi no Midori lives up to the hype and definitely is a solid place to visit. Another place that is similarly priced, maybe slightly higher is Sushi Zanmai which I think is very comparable to Sushi no Midori. There are dishes that I like in both places and the quality and prices are good as well, however Sushi Zanmai is 24 hours and usually has seats available. If the wait is 2 hours+ at Sushi no Midori I don't think it would be worth it to wait I would use that 2 hours and just wait for Sushi Dai. However if there was no line, this place would probably be my go to if I wanted some awesome sushi everyday. It's a no frills kind of place where you see a bunch of locals and regulars hanging out and enjoying their time. One of the guest there saw me vlogging and apparently told me that they have been to all the locations and the Ginza one is the best location so maybe check that location out. Sushi no Midori takes credit card so you don't have to worry about having cash on hand.
