Monrupino is a comune in the Province of Trieste in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located about 9 kilometres north of Trieste, on the border with Slovenia. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 848 and an area of 12.7 square kilometres . According to the 1971 census, 77.3% of the population are Slovenes. The municipality of Monrupino contains the frazioni Fernetti, Zolla, Rupingrande.Border crossings into Slovenia are located at Monrupino and Fernetti . Monrupino borders the following municipalities: Trieste, Sgonico, Sežana .

    Grotta Gigante , also known as Riesengrotte or as Grotta di Brisciachi, is a giant cave on the Italian side of the Trieste Karst , close to the village of Borgo Grotta Gigante or Briščiki in the municipality of Sgonico.
