Montsoreau is a commune of the Loire Valley in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France on the Loire, 160 km from the Atlantic coast and 250 km from Paris. The village is listed among the most beautiful villages of France and part of the Loire Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2015, the French contemporary art collector Philippe Méaille associated with Christian Gillet, president of the French department of the Maine-et-Loire signed an agreement to turn the Château de Montsoreau into a museum of international contemporary art for the next 25 years.
