Mustang District , a part of Gandaki Pradesh in of northern Nepal, is one of the seventy-seven districts of Nepal. The district, with Jomsom as its headquarters, covers an area of 3,573 km2 and has a population of 13,452. The district straddles the Himalayas and extends northward onto the Tibetan plateau. Mustang is one of the remotest areas in Nepal and is second in terms of the sparsity of population.Mustang is an ancient forbidden kingdom, bordered by the Tibetan plateau and sheltered by some of world's tallest peaks, including 8000-meter tall Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.     The Kali Gandaki Gorge or Andha Galchi is the gorge of the Kali Gandaki in the Himalayas in Nepal. The Kali Gandaki gorge is the deepest canyon in the world, being 24,071 ft or 7,337 m lower than Annapurna I which bounds it at one point.The upper part of the gorge is also called Thak Khola after the local Thakali people who became prosperous from trans-Himalayan trade. Geologically, the gorge is within a structural graben.The gorge separates the major peaks of Dhaulagiri on the west and Annapurna on the east. If one measures the depth of a canyon by the difference between the river height and the heights of the highest peaks on either side, the gorge is the world's deepest.
