Garhshankar Tehsil is bounded by by Saroya Tehsil towards East , Nawanshahr Tehsil towards South , Banga Tehsil towards west , Mahilpur Tehsil towards North . Nawanshahr City , Nangal City , Phagwara City , Phillaur City are the nearby Cities to Garhshankar.
It is in the 260 m elevation(altitude) . This Place is in the border of the Hoshiarpur District and Fatehgarh Sahib District. Fatehgarh Sahib District Khera is South towards this place . Also it is in the Border of other district Nawanshahr .
As of 2011 India census Garhshankar had a population of 3,02,396. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Garhshankar has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 70%.
Rupnagar, also spelled Ropar or Rupar, is a city and a municipal council in Rupnagar district in the Indian state of Punjab. Ropar is a newly created fifth Divisional Headquarters of Punjab comprising Ropar, Mohali, and its adjoining districts. The ancient town of Rupnagar is said to have been named by a Raja called Rokeshar, who ruled during the 11th century and named it after his son Rup Sen. It is also one of the bigger sites belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization.
