Virgin Gorda travel video in the BVI
Thank you for viewing this video about my sailing cruise travels aboard the Guiding Light. In this video, we will start exploring Virgin Gorda as we continue traveling through the British Virgin Islands.
As we begin our sailing cruise, we first visit The Baths, a pile of huge granite boulders that vary in size and shape. After exploring here, we move on to Devil's Bay, and then to Spanish Town, the main settlement on Virgin Gorda. From the marina here, we take a tour of the island. Once finished, we sail to Savannah Bay and North Sound.

The Most Beautiful Place in the BVI's - Ep. 53 RAN Sailing
It was pretty easy to point out the most beautiful place in the British Virgin Islands for us. The Baths are without a doubt a very spectacular place and we had so much fun walking and crawling in the tunnels and finding new paths among the giant boulders. In this episode, we visit several islands in the BVI's and get to record a podcast on ”On the wind” with Andy and Mia from 59 North Sailing!
Check out Andy and Mia’s website and listen to their podcasts at
We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us.

Caribbean Snorkelling Unique Spots For The Best Experience
St. Barths and Virgin Gorda offers an abundance of locations that are ideal for caribbean Snorkelling experience, but only a few distinguish themselves by offering an unmatched experience. Two of these are best Caribbean islands best for snorkelling – mostly because of their diversity in terms of snorkelling spots. We explore these two locations in this article.
Caribbean Snorkelling at St. Barths (flying to St. Barths)
St. Barths sits on a coral plate with plenty of canyons, reefs and caves, not to mention several shipwreck sites throughout the area. You are sure to encounter sea turtles, eels, rays, tarpon fish and even a baby nurse shark along the way.
Here are a few locations that visitors and locals alike regard as the best on the island for the serious snorkeler:
Lorient Beach – If you like sea turtles, you won’t have to wait long to encounter a few here.
Colombier beach – A 15-minute hike from Flamands, this beach offers great snorkelling off to the far right of the shoreline.
Petit de Anse – This one is also in the vicinity of Flammands but much closer than Colombier. Stone steps lead to the beach and once in the water you will encounter a large population of parrotfish and sea turtles.
Forchue Island – Take a half-day boat tour to this underwater nature preserve that offers some of the best snorkelling anywhere in the Caribbean.
Virgin Gorda (flying to Virgin Gorda)
The numerous shallow-waters around Virgin Gorda make for amazing caribbean snorkelling locations . Even the most experienced snorkeler will find that there are enough places and enough interesting views to occupy days’ worth of underwater exploration.
Here are the five locations that travellers mention most often when asked where the best snorkelling on this beautiful Caibbean island can be found:
Savanah bay – Located along Virgin Gorda’s West shore is a government-established “trail” to help visitors create a self-guided tour of the best snorkelling spots throughout the bay. There are even underwater signs to guide snorkelers and teach about the local marine life.
The Baths – For snorkelers who like exploring rock formations, this is the ideal snorkelling spot off Virgin Gorda. The area is also teeming with colourful tropical fish and lush marine plant life.
The Dogs – Accessible by charter boat, this is a small grouping of uninhabited islands off Virgin Gorda’s Western shore is reputed to have some of the best snorkelling in the British Virgin Islands.
Mahoe Bay – There are two reefs in this bay that protect it from boat traffic that are also great places for the beginning snorkeler to learn and enjoy some breathtaking underwater views.
Prickly Pear Island – This island is part of the British Virgin Islands’ National Parks system. A five-minute boat ride carries visitors to the North Sound. Walk through the Prickly Pear nature refuge and you will be at north beach, a popular spot among the locals for swimming and snorkelling.

Caribbean Sailing: Best Locations For An Exotic Experience
Picture the wind in your hair, sun on your skin, sea splashing peacefully, and sails billowing through the tranquil waves. With Caribbean sailing, this dream comes true every day!
This exotic region has several main sailing areas, the most popular including the Grenadines, the US Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands. All three regions have near-perfect Caribbean
Both sets of the Virgin Islands have the most complete sailing structure, however they can also be overcrowded at times – especially the US Virgin Islands. The Grenadines have a less developed sailing infrastructure, but are much less crowded.
Below we discuss the best Caribbean sailing locations and the conditions of each, for you to choose your preferred vacation spot.Caribbean Sailing Locations
For the best Caribbean sailing adventure, there are two main locations we recommend most: the Grenadines, and the British Virgin Islands.
If you’re looking for shorter passages over longer water with regularly traveled and well defined routes (and thus more company from other boats), then you’ll most likely love the British Virgin Islands.
On the other hand, if long passages and more privacy (undeveloped bays and secluded beaches) is what you’d prefer, then the Grenadines is your go-to Caribbean sailing spot.Sailing the British Virgin Islands
The beautiful British Virgin Islands have smooth sailing and short distances between each anchorage – usually less than 3 hours. Even with the large number of sailors.
Often called the Yachting Capital of the World, most yachters and sailors choose these islands, owing strongly to the well-developed boating infrastructure and marinas.
Tortola is the most popular Caribbean sailing island in this region (and also the largest), with hundreds of sailboats available for rent and at least 100 more chartered yachts available. The Moorings is the largest Caribbean provider of yacht charter services in the area.
Also wonderful (but less busy) is Virgin Gorda, where the famous Bitter End Yacht Club offer a wide range of boat rentals and instructors. Less commercialized than the other islands, it is perfect for a private and relaxing sailboat vacation. The island’s North Sound area is a boater’s dream, attracting the best boats to match.Sailing the Grenadines
Many of the beautiful tiny islands of the Grenadines are impossible to access by commercial airplane, leaving private charters as your premier option. The seclusion of the islands (as well as their unique, vibrant culture) makes them interesting.
Less than 1/3 of the 32 islands and cays of the Grenadines are populated, leaving many untouched and beautiful beaches and bays for you to explore. The waters surrounding the region are warm and calm, but regular trade winds are there to keep your craft moving along.
There is an island for everyone in the Grenadines. Out of the 30 plus islands to visit, Mustique is the most upscale and popular of them all – and our personal recommendation for Caribbean sailing in the Grenadines.
While tiny, beautiful Mustique has several mooring options. It is also popular for having hosted celebrities such as Mick Jagger and Elton John.
Sailors who do not have their own boat have two options. One is to rent your own charter boat (called bareboating) – however you will need a sailing course, and some previous sailing experience.
A second, more popular and easier option is to rent a boat with its own skipper. This allows you to learn about (and experience) Caribbean sailing without the stress of running your own boat. The average cost runs between $100-$200 per person per day, not including food and beverages.Caribbean Sailing Boats
