If you want to discover the coves and beaches of the Bay of Islands, Paihia is a good place to start. Cruises of all descriptions leave from the wharf daily year-round.
Paihia makes an excellent base for exploring the Bay of Islands. It has an extensive choice of accommodation and a good-sized town centre. From the wharf you can arrange a trip to the outer islands, hook into a fishing expedition or catch ferry to Russell.
Top local adventures include cruising to the ‘hole in the rock’ at the tip of Cape Brett, finding dolphins (and maybe swimming with them) and sea kayak tours. Paihia is also just down the road from the historic Treaty House at Waitangi Treaty Grounds, which marks the beginning of New Zealand as a nation. Just west of Paihia is Haruru, where you’ll find an impressive waterfall and a boardwalk.

Today we are doing a day tour of Russell in the Bay of Islands. Russell – the first capital of New Zealand is packed with history but today it’s a quaint New Zealand town in the Bay of Islands. We take the Paihia-Russell car ferry, more like the Opua ferry, to reach Russell by car.
With Russell Mini Tours we see the highlights of Russell New Zealand including Flagstaff Hill in Russell to get some amazing views.

Hi, My name is Dave Howell, I left Seattle, Washington eight years ago, been sailing around the world ever since, this boat has been my home and we have travelled all over the Pacific, Indonesia and Malaysia and happy to be in India now. Some of my favorite places that I have visited are French Polynesia, there are a lot many islands there and are nice to spend time diving and fishing and that is where I spent most of my sailing time. The other place I loved visiting was 'New Hebrides' which is located North East of Australia, the local people here are very poor but have a big heart and are very helping. I also love India though I have not seen the whole of India, I love Kerala too and love the people as they are so caring and love to share. The Indian culture is so diversified and they live in so much harmony even though there are so many different religions that come together. The Somalis are in big trouble, we need to sail thru those troubled waters to get to the Mediterranean. I have always dreamed about sailing this route and I am not scared nor would let some of these bad guys stop me. I will sail with utmost precautions, I really don't know the reason that country is going through hence I do not want to comment on it. This country is run by gangsters and drug lords and I really feel very sorry for the people of Somalia. Something I don't like is seeing garbage dumped in to the sea and would like to see some awareness done to highlight this shame that we do. This litter can even damage our yachts and boats as if my motor sucks in a plastic bag then it will get stuck in my water intake and my motor will over heat and will get damaged hence this harbor needs to be clean to encourage more and more sailors to come to this part of the world. My voyage was from Seattle then e hopped down the coast, San Francisco, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Central America, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama Canal, then we sailed to the Galapagos islands, then to Marquesas islands then to the Tuamotu Islands, Tahiti Islands, Bora Bora and then to the Cook Islands, then to Tonga, from Tonga we sailed to New Zealand, then to Fiji, then up to the Marshall Islands, to Australia, hopped up the coast of Australia, we then reached Indonesia, spent almost three months there , spent some time in Bali too. We Then reached Singapore then to Malaysia via the Mallarca Straits, to Thailand then to the Andaman Islands which is our entry into India, we then sailed around the peninsula tip and then reached Kochi. It took us 8 years to reach Kochi and I wonder how long it will take for us to reach Seattle back again.

Join us as we slowly meander down the beautiful east coast of New Zealand's North Island. We do some awesome walks and watch the penguins diving around the boat. We arrive at Bayswater Marina in Auckland just before Christmas.

Hi there ! We are Jo and Rob, a slightly crazy husband and wife team, who decided on a whim to sell up and set sail . We had no prior sailing experience when we bought out 40ft catamaran 'Double Trouble' , but hey, mere details right? We moved onboard in January 2017 and have been learning ever since. We love our life , both on and under the oceans. We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment ,so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. No fishing rods for us . Join us for fun and games as we set off around the world at walking pace.
