1) Visit Temples
No trip to SE Asia - and Cambodia for that matter - should be taken without firmly penciling in a visit to Angkor Wat. Built to honor Hindu God Vishnu, Angkor Wat is the largest religious complex in the world.
2) Island Hop
Few islands in SE Asia can offer as much as Bali, Indonesia. Paradise for beach dwellers? Check. Into surfing? Check. Culture vulture? Ubud will surely tickle your fancy. Backpacker? Kuta beach is calling. Feel like climbing an active volcano? Mount Batur is calling your name. Love monkeys? Try to avoid getting bitten at Ubud Monkey Forest.
3) Volunteer
If you're seeking a place to volunteer that supports a great cause, look no further than Elephant Nature Park. Nestled nearby Chiang Mai, this elephant sanctuary and rescue center protects elephants from abuse in stark contrast with the Thai government which turns a blind eye.
4) Linger for a while in Cultural Hubs
Luang Prabang is a cultural hub in northern Laos that is a little slice of paradise. A charming city oozing with character it is different from other cities in Southeast Asia in the sense that is not overcrowded. Whether you go shopping, explore the rural countryside or enjoy riverside dining you'll surely remember your time here fondly. I highly recommend taking a cooking class.
5) Marvel at modern architecture
When you first lay your eyes upon the Petronas Towers it is like being in front of a futuristic space towers. These amazing towers are the main landmark of Kuala Lumpur and are easily the most impressive towers in SE Asia.
6) Indulge in Street Food
I can't think of a single nation in SE Asia where you can't devour amazing street food. In our travel video guide we showcase the Saturday Night Market in Chaing Mai where you can eat Thai and International street food delights without shelling out too much Baht.
7) Explore a Mega Alpha City
There are many mega cities in SE Asia worth exploring from Kuala Lumpur to Saigon and Bangkok to Hanoi; however, no city in Southeast really compares with Singapore. Clean. Impossibly sterile. Maybe to some; however it is a beacon of light in terms of development and prosperity with many impressive attractions and landmarks.
8) Get off the beaten track
When possible try to visit some smaller gems. Although the road from Chiang Mai to Pai is as serpentine as you'll ever experience, the rewards once arriving are plentiful. Stunning scenery and a slower pace of life await you. Swing on a hammock to your heart's content.
9) Boat Trip
Choosing either a two or three day Ha Long Bay boat cruise is one of the top things I recommend to do while traveling in Vietnam. Stunning Karsts, adventure sports (kayaking) and plenty of relaxing are what keep tourists coming in droves.
10) Go Hiking and visit Hill Tribes
Sapa, Vietnam is one of your best bets in SE Asia for adventure hiking. You can go on two or three day adventures where you'll be treated to breathtaking scenery, rice terraces, rural life and plenty of hospitality.

Khao Lak - City Video Guide
This video for Khao Lak is one of our older productions, but we wanted to share it with you to get some feedback on how these older clips compare to the more recent travel guides we’ve shot. Below are some links to those recent videos. Feel free to compare with this clip and comment below to let us know which ones you prefer, and what else you’d love to see from Expedia on YouTube!

Welcome to Khao Lak, a serene, quiet area nestled in Thailand’s west coast.
While full of appealing beaches and lush jungles, Khao Lak has not quite arrived on the tourism scene just yet. As a result of its quiet location, your Khao Lak tour will likely be very relaxing as you adapt to the slower pace of life in the area. Many of the locals live in huts on the seashore, or in small villages, and make their living via fishing and selling their wares to visitors. You won’t find high-rise skyscrapers or fancy resorts in Khao Lak. Instead, you’ll stay in charming, secluded accommodations that fit in perfectly with the area’s natural surroundings.
Khao Kal sightseeing no doubt includes a tour of the area’s interior. Tropical jungles and beautiful waterfalls are located right on the coastline, so you can emerge from an exploration of the interior and splash right into the warm Andaman Sea. For even more natural beauty, head to Cheo Larn Lake, located right near Khao Lak. This 64-square mile freshwater lake is navigable by boat, and sports some truly stunning landscapes. Hop onto a wooden canoe and wind through limestone cliffs draped with lush greenery.
How will you spend your time in Khao Lak?

Thai Jungle Curry แกงป่า (Kaeng Pa)
Do you love Thai food? Get a copy of my Thai Food Guide by clicking here:
Thailand has a countless amount of healthy and wonderfully tasty dishes, one of them being a famous Northern Thai jungle curry (Kaeng Pa แกงป่า). Nearly every flavor you could possibly dream of in a single bite is present within a spoonful of jungle curry. Originally a curry from Northern Thailand, kaneg pa แกงป่า is a medley of vegetables and herbs that can be grown and harvested from the forest. It was once normally cooked with wild boar, which was formerly common in the area, and while you can still order this version, other variations with chicken or pork are also widespread. To try something new, I decided to order this Thai jungle curry with frog - known as Kaeng Pa Kob (แกงป่ากบ). The soup curry included a vibrant mixture of bamboo shoots, eggplants, long beans, chillies, roots, herbs, basil, and not forgetting the meaty chunks of frog included in the soup. The great thing about Thai jungle curry is that it's very healthy and includes not coconut milk like many other Thai curries. The flavors will excited your mouth like crazy!
In order to get a taste of Thai jungle curry แกงป่า in Bangkok, there's no better place to go than a restaurant by the name of Ran Gaeng Pa Sriyan (ร้านแกงป่า ศรีย่าน). Located near the Sri Yang market in the Dusit district of Bangkok, Thailand, they serve some of the best jungle curry in the city. Everyday for both lunch and dinner, the restaurants attracts a crowd of local Thais all out to score some marvelous cuisine. Along with jungle curry, the menu also includes an extensive mix of other delicious Thai dishes, some of them northern Thai specialities. I ordered a plate of minced quail stir fried with chillies, garlic, and basil (Nok Sab Pad Kee Mao นกสับผัดขี้เมา) which was outstanding. Also, the stir fried bitter river snails with chillies and garlic (Hoy Comb Pad Cha หอยขมผัดฉ่า) was equally good. I have a raging addiction to eating and ordering stink beans, so there was no resisting a plate of stink beans stir fried with fermented shrimp paste known as Goong Pad Kapi Sataw (กุ้งผัดกะปิสะตอ). All dishes were unbelievably good and it was one of the most memorable feasts of the month.
To finish of a super tasty meal, I ended with a soothing bowl of durian ice cream over a small bed of sticky rice. It was good, but not as good as the durian ice cream down the street - that's why I didn't show it in this video. So when you come to Bangkok and want to sample the best Thai jungle curry แกงป่า, this is by far the best one I've ever had. And by the way, you don't need to order it with frog if you don't want to, there are many other options you can choose from!

8) Visit Luang Prabang night market

10) Take a Lao cooking class
We have made it to Luang Prabang and this city has quickly become one of my favorites here in Southeast Asia. This is the cultural hub of Laos and we're going to show you a few of the things you can do around town.
When you're visiting Luang Prabang, it is really easy to stick to the city center. There is so much to do and see there but if you have the time come outside and explore the outskirts of the city. Right now we're going across a bamboo bridge and we're going to see what is on the other side. Lead the way.
Because this is a very small city it is really easy to find yourself in the countryside. That's exactly what we've been doing just wandering down rural areas and we even found a dog to join us for the walk.
Now we are up bright and early for a biking tour around the city. We picked up these bikes for 20,000 Kip, which is $2.50 USD and we have them for the day, so we're going to be cycling around. Let's see what we find.
Luang Prabang is very pedestrian friendly. In fact, there are so many different little back-alleys and lanes to explore that it is just a great idea to wander about without any sense of direction.
There are some fantastic views in this city so one of our recommendations is to enjoy a meal by the river, which is what we're doing tonight.
Another thing you'll want to do when you're in Luang Prabang is to visit all of the temples around the city. This morning we're visiting Wat Xieng Thong and it is one of the main temples in Luang Prabang. It is also known as the Golden City Temple and it really has some impressive glass mosaics. You'll want to wander around and take some photos.
It is 20,000 Kip to enter which is $2.50 USD and like most places it is good to come early because it starts to get busy during the middle of the day.
Now it is time for us to get a little bit of exercise. We're going to climb up 328 steps up Mount Phou si which is more like a hill for the best views of Luang Prabang.
Admission to reach the top of this mountain is 20,000 Kip which is again is $2.50 USD. It is kind of cool going up because you go up one way and then you come down the other side of the mountain so you get to see different views along the way.
This is the dipping platter. This over here is a coriander pickle. Next we have an eggplant dip. A tomato dip. We have paste made from buffalo skin.
I'm going to unveil our steamed fish, which comes wrapped in banana leaf. It is called Mok Pa.
And when the sun goes down it is time to go shopping. We're at the tourist night market and we're picking up souvenirs.
If there is one thing that Luang Prabang is known for is for its Almsgiving which happens every morning at six AM.
This is where monks collect alms of rice from kneeling locals and tourists.
If you love to eat like we do then you can't leave Luang Prabang without taking a cooking class. Today we're at the Phou si market and we're picking up ingredients before we start preparing our food.
Not much sugar in Lao cooking like in Thai food. When you taste Thai food you taste milky and creamy and sweet things because they add lots of coconut milk and lots of sugar. That is why their food tastes like that. Laos food is different. Lao food tastes lots of herbs and lots of texture. This is Lao food.
Here we have our buffalo salad. We stir friend some buffalo meat and we also added beansprouts and there is banana flowers. We have string beans, hot chilies and mint leaves. We're going to be rolling this up in lettuce leaves. It is kind of like a little fresh roll:

A Trip to Pahurat (พาหุรัด) - Bangkok's Little India
Visit my website for lots for travel and food, click here:
Pahurat (พาหุรัด), located just a five minute walk from Yaowarat Chinatown in Bangkok, Thailand, is the Little India of Thailand. Though it's a small area, Pahurat is packed with all kinds of interesting Indian merchandise, textiles, cloth, and a few reputable Indian restaurants.
Though I haven't yet been to India (I would love to go soon), I sometimes go to Pahurat (พาหุรัด) to explore and of course dine of delicious Indian food.
In this video after doing a little walking around and checking out the area, I went over to one of my favorite street side Indian restaurants in Bangkok - a small eatery known as Toney Restaurant.
Indian food in Bangkok is not normally overly cheap, in fact it's been marketed as quite an expensive cuisine and often housed in nicer sit down restaurants. However, Pahurat (พาหุรัด), there is plenty of Indian food available and many things are quite a bit cheaper than other Indian restaurants in town.
So next time you visit Bangkok, be sure to stop by Pahurat for street food and exploration!
