    Anarkali , born as Sharif un-Nissa, and also known as Nadira Begum, was courtesan from Lahore in modern-day Pakistan. According to one of the stories, Anarkali had an illicit relationship with the Crown Prince Salim and the Mughal Emperor Akbar had enclosed in a wall where she died. There is no historic proof of Anarakali's existence although this character appears often in movies, books and in fictionalized versions of history on TV.
