Top 10 Places to Visit in Thailand
Hi everyone. This is David Hoffmann of Davidsbeenhere. In the spring of 2013, I spent six incredible weeks exploring the country of Thailand. I drove from Bangkok all the way up to Chiang Rai and then flew down to the islands.

Ayutthaya Historical Park, which in addition to it being a fascinating historical park, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s about one hour from Bangkok, which makes it a quick and easy day trip from the city.
Bangkok, here’s a reason why this gritty, sophisticated, chaotic, cosmopolitan city is such a draw for travelers from all over the world. Here, you can visit Thailand’s top attraction, the Grand Palace complex; admire the impressive, porcelain architecture at Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of the Dawn; see the largest reclining Buddha statue in Thailand at Wat Pho; experience a feast for both your eyes and your stomach in the Chinatown district; experience one of Thailand’s best culinary gems at Boat Noodle Alley and so much more. I love this city so much. It’s truly a traveler’s paradise.
Chiang Mai, millions of travelers and expats from all over the world have been entranced by this city over the years, and it’s not hard to see why, between the laid-back culture, incredible dining, gorgeous Buddhist temples, and spirited nightlife. The nightly bazaar is a favorite among bargain shoppers looking for deals on various items, but the Sunday Night Market is where you’ll also find musicians, street performers, and vendors selling handmade arts and crafts.
The White Temple, an ornate architectural marvel that's just a 20-minute drive south from Chiang Rai. It was built and conceptualized by Thai artist Ajarn Chalermchai Kositpipat, who purposely designed it so that it doesn’t match the style of other Buddhist temples in the country.
Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, located an hour and a half from Bangkok. Here you can buy souvenirs, fresh produce, and clothing from local vendors and try local dishes like noodle bowls, coconut pancakes, stir-fried dishes, fresh fruit, and spring rolls. Arrive early to avoid the mid-morning influx of tourists and don’t forget to bring cash!
Golden Triangle Park, which lies roughly 45 minutes north of Chiang Rai where the Mekong River separates Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. While this area was once known for its opium production, the crop has since been eradicated here.
Koh Lanta Island should definitely be on your itinerary. Koh Lanta offers a much more laid-back atmosphere than the bustling beaches of Phuket and Samui. Bamboo Beach’s crystal clear water makes it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Be sure to check out Lanta Old Town and Koh Lanta National Park while you’re on the island.
Lopburi, a town located 150 kilometers northeast of Bangkok and is known for its ancient ruins.Unlike the ruins at Ayutthaya and Sukothai, the ruins of Lopburi will take a lot more effort to visit because they’re more spread out.The ruins of Lopburi are well known for the energetic macaques that roam the temples.
Phuket, which is well-known around the world for its beaches, incredible views, and nightlife. Phuket boasts 25 Buddhist temples, including Wat Chong, a three-story temple that is said to house a bone relic of the Buddha. If you’d rather take part in some water-based activities, check out one of Phuket’s beaches, including Surin, Bang Tao,and Patong. I visited Phang Nga Bay with Captain Mark’s Alternative tours for a full day speed boat tour.
Sukhothai, the first ancient capital of the Kingdom of Siam and like Ayutthaya, the historical park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the site’s most beautiful and impressive structures at include the park’s largest temple, Wat Mahatat, the three-pillared Wat Si Sawai temple, and Pra Achana Buddha at Wat Si Chun. Sukhothai Historical Park is quite large and requires a full day to see it all.
And that’s my list of ten places you must visit when you go to Thailand. There’s truly something for everyone in this amazing country, and as I said earlier, my trip there is one of my favorites I’ve ever gone on. If you’ve never been to Thailand, I hope this video made you want to go! If you loved this video, please give it a thumbs up, leave me a comment below, and subscribe to my channel.
