Shepherd Entertainment gives you the history of Tempi in Chalkidiki and shows you its sites and attractions. Tempi visitors
can explore the mythological Spring of Daphne Nymph and the Spring of Aphrodite, along with other spectacular sites.
Tempe Valley divides Macedonia and Thessaly between the Mountains Olympus and Ossa. The 10km long narrow and deep abyss was famous even in ancient times. According to myths, the mountain was cut in two by Poseidon in his fury. There are a lot of springs in the valley and its water is a rare treasure here. It was considered a gift of the gods and named after them in gratitude.
The most famous are the Spring of Daphne Nymph, Agios Paraskevi which is said to cure eye disease and the Spring of Aphrodite which sagas claim gives beauty and youth back. According to the myth, after killing a dragon, Apollo came here to purify himself in the water of the Pinios River.
Travelling through the gorges of the valley, we could admire the diverse and exotic wildlife of the area. The valley and the church are famous place of pilgrimage. It is well-known that the place was a passage of strategic importance in warfare. One of the gates of Greece in the north since it was always used by offensive troops who were afraid of marching in the long narrow valley.

Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Torralba
Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Torralba
Torralba is a town and comune in Sardinia, Italy, administratively part of the province of Sassari. The communal territory is home to the Nuraghe palace of Nuraghe Santu Antine, the highest and best preserved in Sardinia. Torralba is an agricultural centre in the Meilogu territory. The village is found in a hilly area surrounded by valleys and is dominated by two mountains, one of which is the site of the Parish Church of 'San Pietro Apostolo'. The territory is rich with springs and torrents, which have favoured its settlement since ancient times. Various cultures have alternated here over the course of time. the first remains can be traced back to the Neolithic Age, as demonstrated by the 'domus de janas' (chamber tombs) of 'Su Siddadu' and of 'Santu Jorzi' and those of 'Nughedu' situated under the plateau of San Pietro of Sorres.
However, the period of major importance for Torralba was almost certainly the Nuraghic one. around 30 nuraghi and about ten 'giants' tombs' are found in the area and this concentration of archaeological remains has earned this area the name of Valley of the Nuraghi. One of the most important is certainly the Nuraghic Palace of 'Santu Antine', the second most imposing Nuraghic complex in Sardinian after the one at Barumini. There are also numerous remains of the Roman colonisation, which encouraged the practice of agriculture in the area. During the period of the 'Giudicati', Torralba was part of the 'curatoria' of Cabu Abbas in the diocese of Torres. after the Aragonese conquest, it became the seat of a Marquisate.
However, the first evidence, regarding the inhabited centre, dates back to the medieval period as demonstrated by the oldest maps, according to which the inhabited centre was found near to Via Turresa and close to the ancient city of Sorra. The inhabited centre dates to the XII century and developed near the Church of Santa Maria, of which no traces remain. Its medieval origins are also confirmed by a number of buildings in the historic centre. alongside the houses, we find the traditional stone benches, pezzas and charming little fountains. The ancient little streets are paved in stone.
Torralba is famous for the presence of the Nuraghic Palace of 'Santu Antine', one of the most important in the western Mediterranean. It is an imposing megalithic construction, about 17 metres high, which dominates the whole Valley of the Nuraghi. The monument is a proper fortress-castle, comprising a three-storeyed central tower, which is the oldest part of nuraghe, around which we find a triangular-shaped bastion with three towers. The remains of a Nuraghic village are found around the palace and were inhabited even in the Roman period.
Nowadays, the archaeological complex is the site of the 'Museum of the Valley of the Nuraghi of the Logudoro-Meilogu area', preserving the various findings from the Palace and the Valley of the Nuraghi and housing exhibitions and an ethnographical section, which preserves local craftwork and cultural objects. The old inhabited centre of Torralba rose near the Church of Santa Maria, which no longer exists today, but near where the new Parish Church of 'San Pietro Apostolo' was erected in Gothic Renaissance style in 1615. The church is in limestone and inside preserves a wooden altar with the statues of San Pietro, San Giuseppe and San Sebastiano, a limestone baptismal font and an eighteenth century altarpiece which joins two panels by a Sardinian artist of the sixteenth century.
The Church of 'Nostra Signora of Cabu Abbas', built in Romanesque-Pisan style between the XII and the XIII century, is found on the road for the 'Sant'Antine' Nuraghe. The building is made of white limestone ashlars, while inside trachytic stone has been used. On the facade at the centre of the tympanum, we can admire a strange anthropomorphic sculture, probably an early-Christian divinity Torralba still preserves evidence of an ancient past and even its typical dishes have an ancient flavour.
