Welcome to Palawan. Proclaimed nr. 1 island in the world multiple times over the last decade. And for some good reasons.
Puerto Princesa
One way or another, you will end up in Puerto Princesa. Arriving from Manila or Cebu, or leaving at the end of your trip. It’s the biggest city on the island and the gateway to the beautiful beaches and corals. I wouldn’t suggest staying here too long, but if you’re up for something quorky, at least stick around for the ultimate city tour. You’ll never find yourself in a butterfly garden (ok, this is not a butterfly) and in prison, at the same day ever again.
Underground River
Tourist madness or a must see? There are conflicting reports online about the Underground River. Only a daytrip away from Puerto Princesa.
Fact is, this stunning peace of earth was declared as one of the seven wonders of nature in 2011. Yes, she does attract some people. But if you can get passed that, she makes up for a unique experience.
Port Barton
Before arriving in the most popular spot in Palawan, turn left and chill out in Port Barton. By far my favorite of the entire island. Relatively undiscovered, but still with everything your heart desires. Blue lagoons, white beaches, and a room for every budget. The corals are amongst the best I’ve seen in Palawan, and there is a whole lot of under water goodness for you to discover.
El Nido
Continue to the far north of the main island and you’ll end up in El Nido. Worldfamous for her surroundings. The limestone cliffs seem to just tickle the sky, and let’s not even start about the beaches. Small Lagoon definitely is one of the most mesmerizing places I’ve ever visited. But all of this didn’t go unnoticed. In only a few years time a sleepy fishing village, only accessable by dirt road, became the biggest tourism hub in the region. Book your room in time, cause hotels tend to fill up faster than you can blink the eye. And be prepared to share your beaches with some other guests.
Sibaltan
Continuing east you will end up in Sibaltan. A small village, with only a handful of tourists. Note how the resorts here are built with natural material only. We had an amazing time in here two years ago, exploring the surroundings in multiple ways. You can easily enjoy yourself multiple days in a row. Just forget about the rest of the world, put your feet in the air and relax.
Buhay Isla Expedition
Search online for Palawan and one thing will be clear: you MUST get on an expedition between El Nido and Coron. It’s multiple days, living on a boat, sleeping on deserted islands. Exploring the surroundings of Linapacan. Untouched by mass tourism, you will find most of these places all for yourself. From caves to beaches and if you’re ready: just get your own food.
Coron
The northernmost stop in this province is Busuanga. Better known as Coron. A place famous for her WWII shipwrecks. A hotspot for divers from all over the world. Also because of the weird thermocline experience in Baracuda lake. A layer of sweet and salt water make you dive in 36 degrees celcius. As Sander put it: like being back in the uterus. Well, it’s weird but fun! Other activities for sure include island hopping, and if it’s not raining you can climb mount Dalara. If it’s not raining I said…
One of the most beautiful views is this one. Look back on your way to Kayangan lake and make sure you take this iconic picture!

Is Port Barton worth a visit? Absolutely! Check out one of the nicest beaches in town (and arguably in Palawan)! Don't forget to hit up the waterfall during your visit. Both can be done in 1 day.
2-3 days is great for a short term visit. 1 week is plenty for those looking to leisurely enjoy the small town vibes...

PORT BARTON Philippines Vlog #9
Untouched nature on Palawan Port Barton. We did an island tour to german island and paradise island. We saw green sea turtles and found nemo! :)
So yeah, definitely a big recommendation if you want to see unspoiled nature without much tourism you should go to Port Barton. The town itself is not very developed, you won't find a big hotel and sometimes you won't have power or a hot shower, but you can get a beautiful bungalow right on the beach for 15$! We stayed at the Deep Moon Resort and I can highly recommend it. Ausan Beach Front Cottages is also nice.
The van from Puerto Princesa takes 5 hours and the road is not very good but eventually you will make it there. If you are there you can do different island tours with a small boat. For 700php you will get a full day of exploring on a small boat for 8 people, snorkeling in untouched beautiful coral reef, diving is also very good there, and as you saw those little islands look like paradise from above.
I hope that this place is going to stay just like it is, because i thought the town El Nido was very dirty and badly developed, which kind of ruined the island tour and whole experience there, so keep Port Barton a secret.

Port Barton, nr. 1 spot in Palawan, Philippines
This week I'm off to one of my favorite places in this world, it's Port Barton in Palawan, Philippines. It's serene, laid back, there is a lot to see and do (island hopping, waterfalls) and some of the most friendly people live here! Keep in mind the Filipino's are already friendly in general, so can you even imagine ;) Big love and thumbs up for Port Barton!
To find Jeremy, I created a business FB page for him:
Check it out, show him some love :D

The road from El Nido to Port Barton already brings back a lot of memories. Especially the slippery dirtroads. I’m glad not everything has changed yet.
And then we arrive! After a short check in at the local tourism office, I’m good to go.
Ready for one of my favorite places in this world!
Of course we can’t visit Port Barton, without saying hi to my favorite guide, so….
Yeah, of course I remember the picture. We wanted a way to say thank you to those we shared great memories with! And…
Well, sounds like a plan!
During my time in Palawan it has been raining on and off. But hey, if you’re gonna get wet anyway…
The biggest waterfall around Port Barton is definitely a natural beauty. Great for a cold dip, after a hot day!
White Beach is the perfect spot to relax at the end of your day. Save up some energy for the grand tour next morning!
Some of the reefs are so close to the surface, you have to hold your belly in to get over them. It might the closest you’ll get to the corals, without actual scooba diving.
Oh guys, sometimes I wish I could give you a taste of these moments right through your screen. Well, we’ll keep enjoying out lunch here for a bit, while saying our goodbyes.
Next week we’re up for the second part of our tour, meet the lords of the sea in all sizes, find an other piece of paradise and we’re celebrating! There is way too much left to be done, don’t miss out on it! See you next week. Doeg…!

Also: order down here is random, not to spoil the video :P
Also: there is more info about individual places in the descriptionboxes of the video’s I made about those places!
--BOHOL—
► Sleep at Guindulman Bay Tourist Inn:
Go see:
► Waterfalls of Candijay (can-umantad falls)
► Rice fields of Candijay
► Lamanok island tour
► Hike behind the hotel and see the amazing valley! Just walk the road inland from Guindulman bay tourist inn for 20 minutes or so!
--LINAPACAN--
I did my tour with Buhay Isla!
--PORT BARTON--
►Hotel: I honestly think there are so many new places, I do not dare to make a recommendation!
►Tours: Jeremy & Jake tours is the one I’d recommend! Did you know I made and organize their FB page? Just a fun fact! I made it cause I really believe in them!
--SIARGAO--
There are multiple hotels I can recommend.
►Surfing Carabao:
My favorite!
►Ocean 101:
►Kawili: (also for food)
►Tourcompany I used and recommend is My Siargao Guide (book with them through Bravo resort).
Other places to check out (especially if you rent your own bike):
►Pacifico, long drive but popular surf spot and beach
►Magpungko Rock pool, which is apparently very stunning when the sun is out!
►Tayangban Cave Pool
►Tak tak waterfall
--SIQUIJOR--
►Hotel: Garden Bungalows resort (loved it!)
►Tours I booked through the hotel. Though I would recommend getting a motorcycle and find the waterfalls, beaches and good spots all yourself!
--SIPALAY—
► Sleep in Takatuka resort (featured in the video):
►Take a tour to Danjugan Island (arranged by hotel)
►Tour the main attractions of Sipalay itself (1000 pesos half a day or 1500 whole day). Excluding fees along the way.
Including Perth resort (infinity pool), the cave, one more resort and special places along the way.
You can arrange this tour with Roland Dequina – rolandtours.wordpress.com or 09489358749
--BATANES—
Visit Sabtang, Batan and Itbayat.
►Batan hotel: Nanay cita’s Homestay:
►Sabtang hotel: ask to stay at the lighthouse!
►Itbayat: arrive and ask for the mayor or miss Cano (when I was there these were the only homestays)
►Tours Batan: there is a northern and a southern tour on Batan. Do both of them! You can fit them in 1 day but rather take 2.
►Tours Itbayat: do the general island tour but ALSO the sunrise tour! That one is the BEST!
►Sabtang: go for the standard half a day tour or sleep at the island and take the extended tour! :D Both are good, it depends on how much time you have.
--ISLAS DE GIGANTES--
No recommendings for hotels. For tours: do the island tour for sure! It’s the best out here, and very close to each other.
Also go for the caves and lighthouse if you have time to spare, otherwise just stick to the islands.
--SIBALTAN (EL NIDO)—
►Sleep in Tapik Beach:
You can do all the tours in El Nido from here, just ask at the resort. Also I’d recommend to do an island tour around Sibaltan, ask for the good corals! Mangrove tour is nice, only if you have time to spare.
--CORON—
Not found a specific hotel I can recommend here.
DEFINITELY do the ULTIMATE island tour! You’ll see the lakes and good corals, the shipwrecks and the islands. If you do Buhay Isla or an other Linapacan tour, ask what they already cover cause there might be overlap here.
Climb mount Dalara if you’re done with islands

From zip lining to snorkeling, to meeting monitor lizards and more, it's incredible what adventures families can have when they explore off-the-beaten path destinations.
We combine education with engaging activities mixed with local culture to help inspire our children to see the world for the incredible place that it is.
