Sauble Falls to Kincardine - Ontario Bike Tour #2 - Day 6 of 10
This video summarizes Day 6 of my 10 day solo bicycle trip along the shores of Lake Simcoe and Lake Huron in Southern Ontario, Canada. All of the clips in the video were filmed on Wednesday July 25, 2018.
In this video I mentioned my 2014 bike tour of the Bruce Peninsula. Unfortunately I don't have videos from that trip, however I have a photo album on my website which describes it in pretty good detail:
Starting from Sauble Falls Provincial Park I rode west on Sauble Falls Rd which changes names to Lakeshore Blvd at Lake Huron and took me into Sauble Beach. Sauble Beach is the second longest freshwater beach in Canada. When I reached Shore Rd, I jogged over to 2nd Ave S and continued south following the shoreline. Eventually this road merges with County Rd 13 which is a busy road with a bike lane. This land is all owned by the Saugeen First Nation. Eventually I turned right onto Eckford Ave, Blanchfield Rd, and Shore Rd. I briefly rode west along South Rankin St and then crossed the Saugeen River on Albert St. This brought me into the community of Southampton which is part of the municipality known as Saugeen Shores. Just off the shore of South Hampton theres an Island called Chantry Island. I made a right when I got to High St and then turned left at Huron St. This street eventually changes names to Miramichi Bay Rd and North Shore Rd. There are also sections of this route where there is a nice shoreline multi-use trail which I used. Eventually I reached the harbour of Port Elgin, where I headed inland along Market St to Goderich St. I stopped for a quick breakfast/lunch at JC's Just Good Food and also visited the Port Elgin Farmer's Market. I continued riding south along Goderich St out of Port Elgin until I reached concession rd 4 where I headed west. I turned onto Lake Range Rd which took me past MacGregor Point Provincial Park. When I reached Concession Rd 8 I jogged west and continued SW on B&C Side Rd. I again jogged west at Bruce Rd 33 and continued on Tie Rd which took me past the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station. From there I followed Concession Rd 2, Albert Rd, Victoria St, Upper Lorne Beach Rd and Bruce County Road 23 (B Line) into the town of Kincardine. Within Kincardine I explored SW along Queen St to Queen's Lookout, then up Durham Market Street to Princes Street. Next I rode down to the lake along Harbour St past Walker House and the Kincardine Lighthouse and out onto the north pier.
Strava for Day 6:
The bike I used for this trip is a New York made Linear Recumbent Bike which I believe is from around 2004. I carried my gear in 2 Giant Waterproof Panniers, and mounted my tent and sleeping pad on the top of the rack.

Sauble beach Canada
Sauble Beach (pop. 2000) is a beach community and unincorporated area in the town of South Bruce Peninsula, Bruce County in the northern area of southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is on the Bruce Peninsula, along the eastern shore of Lake Huron, on the north edge of the Saugeen Nation. The beach takes its name from that given by early French explorers to the sandy Sauble River, originally La Rivière Au Sable (river to the sand) also indicating that the river emptied into Lake Huron at a sandy beach.[1] The river was labelled with the French name on maps until 1881, when it became the Sauble River; in early years, a sawmill was built on the river, and later, a hydro electric plant.
The first settler is reported to have been John Eldridge, who built a cottage nearby in 1877. Other settlers followed and the village continued to grow with a boarding house and then a store. In the 1900s a large sawmill below the falls on the Sauble River employed 40 people. Initially, development was to the south and later to the east of the river. By the early decades of the 1900s, Sauble Beach was attracting visitors because of its gorgeous beaches; this grew as an increasing number of families acquired automobiles.
Beach and other activities
At over seven miles long (11 km), Sauble Beach is said to be the second longest freshwater beach in the world after Wasaga Beach. Since the town faces west, the sunsets are visible and are sometimes beautiful. While Cottage Life magazine does not specifically mention Sauble Beach, it rates other nearby communities highly in its article 10 spectacular places to watch a sunset in Ontario. With clear skies, a dry atmosphere, and an unobstructed view of the skyline, many of the west-facing towns along the shores of Lake Huron have the perfect conditions for a breathtaking sunset.
Sauble Beach, Ontario, Sunset
A phenomenon of sandbar deposits building out along the Lake Huron shoreline keeps the water at Sauble very shallow and warm. This is one of the very few beaches in Ontario where cars are allowed to drive and park on the sand near the water, at least on the side (left of the entrance) that is part of the Saugeen First Nation native lands; a $15 to $20 charge applies for vehicle access to that area (Sauble Park). Otherwise, vehicles must park off the sand in designated areas.
Recreational activities include swimming, windsurfing, water-skiing, fishing, golfing, lawn bowling, tennis, street dances, beach volleyball, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and birding. The town hosts an annual Winterfest. In summer, there are weekly Family Movie Nights, an annual sandcastle building contest, Cruise Nights on Tuesdays, a Sauble Beach Guitar Festival and an 8 km Walk/Run. The Festival of the Classical Guitar has been held since 2007.

Ontario's Prettiest Town: Uniquely Historic Perth
Perth, Ontario. Never heard of it? Well, you're missing out. Voted as the 'prettiest town in the country' Perth is a fabulous spot for a romantic get-away, a quiet weekend away with the family, or a stop-over on a larger tour of Ontario or Canada.
Located on the eastern side of Southern Ontario 83 kms from Ottawa, Perth truly is one of the prettiest towns you'll ever visit. Full of elegant architecture and hospitable locals the city warms your heart and just makes you 'feel good.' Simple and charming, Perth is full of beautiful little restaurants, cafes and B&B's. Time just seems to float by effortlessly in Perth.
But the city has a very playful and cheeky side to it as well. In 2010 Perth held the historic Kilt Run in which 1067 kilt-clad runners (Guinness World Record!) crossed the finish line, including the mayor, John Fennick. An avid sailor, a writer and all around great guy John shouted the GCAT crew lunch and gave us a tour of his town. Like all Pethians John is proud of his town and welcomes all to come and enjoy some time in Perth. Be wary though, he doesn't buy every visitor lunch! ... Enjoy Perth!

UNBELIEVABLE BLUE WATERS in CANADA
Day 2 of our camping trip is on Wes' birthday! We were camping at Bruce Peninsula National Park in Ontario and did a beautiful hike to explore the area. We almost got stuck trying to get out of a cave and then were shocked to see such BLUE waters at the grotto. Even though it was so cold, we had to go swimming to top off another great day in Canada.

Sauble Falls Provincial Park | Sauble Beach
Our long weekend in August 2018.
Sauble Falls Provincial Park is perfect base camp for visits to nearby Sauble Beach. The falls are just a few steps away from the camping.
Our campsite was extremely small, even for screen house there wasn't enough space. Lucky for us this summer is practically mosquitoes free, unbelievable!
P.S. If you have questions regarding camping in Ontario do not hesitate ask. Thank you for watching.
