Mahabaleshwar is a hill station in India's forested Western Ghats range, south of Mumbai. It features several elevated viewing points, such as Arthur’s Seat. West of here is centuries-old Pratapgad Fort, perched atop a mountain spur. East, Lingmala Waterfall tumbles off a sheer cliff. Colorful boats dot Venna Lake, while 5 rivers meet at Panch Ganga Temple to the north.

Description:
1. Pratapgarh Fort :
Pratapgad literally 'Valour Fort' is a large fort located in Satara district, in the Western Indianstate of Maharashtra. Significant as the site of the Battle of Pratapgad, the fort is now a popular tourist destination. Pratapgad fort is located 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Poladpur and 23 kilometres (14 mi) west of Mahabaleshwar, a popular hill station in the area. The fort stands 1,080 metres (3,540 ft) above sea level and is built on a spur which overlooks the road between the villages of Par and Kinesvar.
2. Venna Lake :
Venna lake is one of the major tourist attractions of Mahabaleshwar in Maharashtra state in India. The lake was constructed by Shri Appasaheb Maharaj, who was Raja of Satara in the year 1842. The lake is surrounded by trees on all sides.
3. Mahabaleshwar Hill Station :
At 1,372 meters above sea level, around Lake Venna, is the highest hill station in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra. Mahabaleshwar is one of the most spectacular and the largest of Maharashtra hill-stations. Mahabaleshwar in Sanskrit means God of Great Power.
4. Krishnabai Temple :
The origins of rivers have always been considered sacred for their ability to give life to every being around and along the paths the rivers take. One of the lesser-known temples, Krishnabai Temple, is considered to be the origin of Krishna River. Overshadowed by the famous Panchganga temple, which is meeting point of 5 rivers Koyna, Krishna, Venna, Savitri and Gayatri, the nearby Krishnabai temple takes a bit of walking off-track to arrive at.
5. Elephants Head Point :
Elephant’s Head Point, also known as Needle’s Point, lies at the extreme end of the mountain range beyond Lodwick Point. Resembling to the elephant’s head, this extended ridge is the most popular tourist spot in Mahabaleshwar that offers the stunning views of the Sahyadri mountain range.
6. Arthurs Seat :
Arthur's Seat is a popular tourist destination, which is located 12 km away from Mahabaleshwar. This place is named after Arthur Malet, who was the first man to build a house at this point. The point is perched at the height of 1470 m above the sea level and 600 m above Konkan coastal strip.
7. Lingmala Waterfall :
Located at a distance of 6 kms from Mahabaleshwar, the Lingmala Waterfall can be reached via the Mahabaleshwar-Pune road. The forest bungalow of Lingmala is situated near the falls. The water here launches from a height of approximately 600 feet. The best time to visit Lingmala falls is between July and December.The clear water of Lingmala waterfalls cascades into the Venna Lake during monsoon season.
8. Lodwick Point :
Lodwick Point is a vantage point, which is situated about 5 km west of Mahabaleshwar. Originally known as Sydney Point, this point was rechristened in the honour of General Lodwick, who was the first British officer to climb the hill. To honour his achievement, his son erected a memorial pole of about 25 ft. At the base of this monument, the head of the General is sculptured in marble.
9. Mapro Garden :
Mapro Gardens is a garden park in the hill station of Panchgani, Maharashtra, India, situated close toMahabaleshwar, known for their strawberry produce, and a popular tourist destination. It is located in village of Gureghar and developed and maintained by Mapro - a food processing company.

Parsi Point is known for offering beautiful views of the Dhom Dam backwaters and the lush green Krishna Valley. This popular picnic spot has derived its name from the fact that in earlier days, it was a favourite spot of the Parsi Community.

The top 10 best places to visit in Mahabaleshwa, India.
Mahabaleshwa is a small town and municipal council in the Satara district within the Indian state of Maharashtra.
It's a beautiful hill station that's located along the Sahyadri mountain range. There's a beautiful evergreen forest which is fairly rare to find in India.
As this is such a popular area to visit I decided to put together this video of the best places to visit in Mahabaleshwa.

1. Parsi Point:
If you're looking for beautiful views of the Dhom Dam backwaters then this is the place to head to. You can see the Krishna Valley in all its glory.
2. Mapro Garden:
Found in the hill station of Panchgani, Maharashtra, India, this garden park is known for their strawberry produce. It's a very popular tourist location located in the village of Gureghar. It's run by the Mapro food company.
3. Lodwick Point:
Another beautiful vantage point to visit. It was previously known as Sydney point.
4. Lingmala Waterfall:
You can find this waterfall via the Mahabaleshaw-Pune road. It's best to visit between the months of July and December.

Pratapgad Fort trek | Mahabaleshwar| near Pune tripadvisor

Location:Pratapgad fort is located 20 kilometres west of Mahabaleshwar, a popular hill station in the Maharashtra,India,1,080 m above sea level.
The fort is built on a spur which overlooks the road between the villages of Par and Kinesvar.
How to reach? Pratapgad is usually visited as a day-trip from Mahabaleshwar, a popular tourist destination located 20 kilometres away. Cabs are available from Mahabaleswar to Pratapgad.Several local guides are available.
Another route is from Poladpur (on Mumbai-Goa Highway) to Pargaon ,is called as Parghat, whereas the later portion of the road is called as Ambenali Ghat. One can take govt. ST Bus from Panvel to Poladpur at night & then stay at Poladpur ST bus stand for the first STbus to WADA (Base village). It’s around 7am. When you reach at Wada village you can hire a 4 wheeler to the base of the Fort. If you have private vehicle ample space is available for parking at base of fort.
But there is an alternate fantastic trekking route surrounded by greenery, for that you have to ask villagers first.(it's a bit hidden). But if you go by the main road then you can see an arrow on the road showing the exact path and then you can see old rock stairs. From this route you can go walking in around 45 minutes to the top of the fort.
History
The Maratha king Shivaji Maharaj commissioned Moropant Trimbak Pingle, his prime minister, to undertake the construction of this fort in order to defend the banks of the Nira and the Koyna rivers, and to defend the Par pass. It was completed in 1656.The Battle of Pratapgad between Shivaji and Afzal Khan was fought below the rampants of this fort on November 10, 1659. It is believed that Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja was blessed with a shining sword at the temple of Goddess Bhavani here. This was the first major test of the fledgling kingdom's army, and set the stage of the establishment of the Maratha empire. Pratapgad continued to be involved in regional politics. Sakharam Bapu, a well-known minister of Pune, was confined by his rival Nana Phadnis in Pratapgad in 1778. He was later moved from fort to fort until he finally died at Raigad. In 1796, Nana Phadnis, while escaping from the intrigues of Daulatrao Shinde and his minister Baloba, assembled a strong garrison in Pratapgad before heading to Mahad. In 1818, as part of the Third Anglo-Maratha War, Pratapgad surrendered by private negotiation. This was a great loss to the Maratha forces, as Pratapgad was an important stronghold, had a large garrison, and could suppress much of the country round Wai. A 17-foot high equestrian bronze statue of Shivaji was unveiled by Jawaharlal Nehru, then Prime Minister of India, on the 30th of November 1957, the same year a road was constructed by the Public Works Department from Kumbhrosi village up to fort. The fort is currently owned by Uday Raje Bhosale, the heir of the Satara princely state.
Structure
The fort can be divided into the lower fort and upper fort.The upper fort was built upon the crest of the hill. It is roughly square, 180m long on each side. It has several permanent buildings, including a temple to the god Mahadev. It is located at the northwest of the fort, and is surrounded by sheer cliffs with drops of up to 250m.
The lower fort is around 320m long and 110m wide. It is located at the southeast of the fort, and is defended by towers and bastions ten to 12 metres high.
The Afzal tower extends out from the fort proper and defends the approach to the fort. It is said to have been constructed after the Battle of Pratapgad, and Afzal Khan's head is said to be buried under the tower.
In 1661, Shivaji Raje was unable to visit the temple of the goddess Bhavani at Tuljapur. He decided to dedicate a temple to the goddess at this fort itself. This temple is on the eastern side of the lower fort. The stone from which Goddess Bhavani Mata’s idol is carved has been brought by Shivaji Maharaj with the help of King Leelasen. This stone was extracted from a mountain situated at the convergence point of three rivers namely; Trishul Gandaki, Shwet Gandaki and Saraswati. The idol of Bhavani Mata has been carved by Nepali craftsmen. Shivaji Maharaj worshiped this idol at first on Raigad fort and then later, with the assistance of Moropant Peshwe, it was permanently established on Pratapgad in 1662 A.D.
The hall has been rebuilt since the original construction, and consists of wooden pillars about 50' long, 30' broad and 12' high. The shrine is made of stone, and contains a clothed black stone image of the goddess.A dargah of Afzal Khan is located a short while away from the fort to the south-east.

Pratapgarh Fort 1(3) - Mahabaleshwar, Maharastra
A large castle placed in the Satara district of Maharashtra, the Pratapgad Fort is a very important site as the legendary Battle of Pratapgad was fought here. Now a popular vacationer destination, the Pratapgad Fort is placed 22 km from Mahabaleshwar at 1,080 meters above sea level. Built at such a location, the fort oversees the roads connecting the villages of Par and Kinesvar.
As per the historians, the Maratha king Shivaji Maharaj had commissioned Moropant Trimbak Pingle, his then prime minister, to commence the building of this fort for the purpose of defending Nira and the Koyna rivers’ banks, and also to guard the Par pass. Finally the construction of the fortress was finished in 1656. Also, the Battle of Pratapgad was fought between Shivaji and Afzal Khan on November 10, 1659 below the unbridled area of this fort. This was certainly the first most important test of the fledgling kingdom's defense force, and it laid the foundation brick for the rise of the Maratha Empire.
Pratapgad Fort is divided into 2 parts namely the lower fort and upper fort. The upper fort was constructed upon the crest of a hill and is approximately 180 m long on each of its sides having numerous permanent edifices. There is a shrine of Lord Mahadev, positioned towards the northwest portion of the fort, bordered by cliffs of height above 250 m. On the other hand, the lower fort is sited at the southeast end of the fort, being defended by tall towers and strongholds which are 10-12 meter high.
