Best Places to Visit in Uruguay
Best Places to Visit in Uruguay
Bordered by Argentina and Brazil, the tiny country of Uruguay is often overlooked by those heading to its bigger neighbors. Uruguay is a country you cannot afford to skip from your Latin America itinerary. It has so much to offer, whether it’s surfing beaches, good wine, stunning scenery, delicious steaks and of course marijuana.
Cross its borders and the reward will be endless delights, from glamorous coastline to ranch-peppered interiors where wild lands, gaucho culture, and local folklore lives on. It was one of the first on the continent to allow gay marriages, legalise abortions in 2012 and established a welfare state in 1903.
And of course, the marijuana which it’s so famous for since December 2013, Uruguay legalised the cultivation, sale, and consumption of marijuana for recreational use.

Punta Del Este Uruguay | The Miami Beach of South America | 80+ Countries w/3 kids
Welcome to famous beaches of Punta del Este, Uruguay!
The first thing you’ll notice as you arrive to Playa Brava is one of Uruguay's most recognizable landmarks - a monster-sized hand protruding from the sand. This intriguing sculpture is called La Mano (The Hand) or Monumento al Ahogado (Monument to the Drowning Man), and it was done by Chilean artist Mario Irarrázabal.
This art piece was made during the summer of 1982, as a warning to swimmers who visited Punta del Este. Strong winds and rough waves at La Barra took many lives over the years, and La Mana stands here to prevent similar accidents in future. Even though Mario Irarrázabal had the whole summer to finish his project, working with eight other sculptors he made his idea come true within only six days.

A popular place to visit among Argentines and Uruguayans looking to head to the beach and bask in the rays, Punta del Diablo is a lovely place to visit and despite recent development projects still has the feel of a picturesque and charming little fishing village.
7. Carmelo
Located near the spot where the Rio de la Plata and the Rio Uruguay join, Carmelo is an increasingly popular tourist destination and with good reason, as it is dripping with charm, as wonderful old buildings and cobbled streets make up much of the town.

With lovely leafy plazas and tree-filled avenues for you to enjoy,

Punta del Diablo Uruguay | 80+ Countries w/3 kids
Join us as we remember visiting Punta del Diablo in Uruguay!
South America’s lengthy shoreline draws some of the world’s most dedicated surfers and the former fishing village of Punta del Diablo has some of the continent’s most uninterrupted swell, where just about all there is to do is focus on the waves.
From December through February, the population of Punta del Diablo in Uruguay swells from less than 1,000 to somewhere around 30,000 when people from Argentina and Brazil come to hit the famous beaches. That’s also one of the main reasons why we were attracted to go there as well as the architecture that is still peppered with basic houses painted in a kaleidoscope of colors, and the sandy dirt roads that criss-cross. The weather is almost invariably cooperative and cloudy skies are rare.

Huffington Post:
Many places in Uruguay are named 'punta del' something and this is a continuation of that as Punta del Diablo is the devils tip, as the peninsula resembles that of the devils, or diablos, trident. Either way, the little coastal town of Punta del Diablo is adorable. Only one paved road that runs through the center of the tiny town, and a few shops and chic restaurants lining the beach. At night you can look out over Punta del Diablo and see the lights of Chuy, Uruguay, the border town with Brazil in the distance.
La Paloma, Travel Uruguay:
Like a lot of the towns in Uruguay, this is a small one on the coast with a very slow way of life. Every day in Uruguay feels like a Sunday and that is something I beginning to really like about this country. Things in Uruguay move slow, but get done. Travelling through Uruguay is easy and affordable and quick, because the country of Uruguay is so small.
Punta del Este, Uruguay Travel:
So many things to din Uruguay and I have a couple more videos to come before I depart the country and head into Brazil so make sure to subscribe and see the Uruguay travel videos from before.
