Amazon Jungle in Puyo Ecuador - Tamandúa Ecolodge and Reserve

Travel On Dudes spent the night camping in beautiful Rio Negro before we headed out in the morning to Tamandua Ecolodge and Reserve. Tamandua is located 30 minutes north of the city of Puyo in the Comunidad Samasunchi.

We met up with Juan who is the owner of AningaTravel. He will be our guide with another named Cleaver. The third person in our group is the representative from Tanandua Ecolodge and Reserve, Raul Cuatrecasas Abad.

Once you drive to the end of the dirt road. You have to walk through the jungle more than 1 kilometer in the muddy trails that’s lined with cut fallen trees. The jungle trek to the lodge can be a bit challenging for some who might have a hard time with balance in wet and slippery conditions. However the hike can be quite easy if you just take your time and enjoy the nature.

Once we got to the lodge we understood the vision and planning in building a lodge and reserve in the middle of the Amazon Jungle. Just Magnificent and beautiful. Even though it was raining very heavy at times. That did not dampen the thrill and enjoyment of being in the heart of nature.

The sounds of the rain hitting the leaves and the music of singing birds.

We were all treated to a wonder lunch of steamed tilapia with yuccas, papa chinos and hearts of palms. After lunch we blew on some blow darts and gazed into the distant jungle.

Tamandua Ecolodge and Reserve is a wonderful place to stay being so close in proximity to Puyo and the primary Amazon jungle where many animals can be found.

From monkeys to anacondas to caiman, the amazon is a crazy rich world of diversity. We loved every minute in the amazon and could enjoy it all thanks to the Cuyabeno Lodge and the wonderful naturalist guide.

This is one of the oldest lodges in the cuyabeno region and originally built to research the area, this lodge perched on an island in the black lake is the must stay if you have chosen to visit the region. The Cuyabeno lodge is also a great budget amazon lodge with accommodation ranging from 4 person dorms to private rooms with bathrooms and hot water.

Volunteer in the Amazon Jungle | Wildlife Rescue Center Ecuador

Volunteer at GoEco's Ecuador - Wild Animal Rescue Shelter

Spend a week touring around Ecuador and its capital city of Quito while engaging in Spanish lessons then head off to volunteer with rescued animals! During orientation week you will be able to see several of Ecuador's biggest tourist destinations and embrace a new culture. The rescue shelter is home to various species of native Ecuadorian wild animals that have been abused, injured or neglected. This haven has several sections, one of the most impressive being Monkey Island, which is only accessible via a pedestrian bridge. These animals are in need of loving volunteers to care for their daily needs.

ECUADOR: Devil's Waterfall (Pailon del Diablo, Banos)

“DEVIL’S WATERFALL” – “PAILON DEL DIABLO”, BANOS, ECUADOR


Obviously – regarding waterfalls – after 7 summers living in Iceland and before that spending almost the whole year in Norway I’ve presumed I have seen it all about what waterfalls can offer us...but wait not so fast with your conclusion.

During my “Ecuador Trip 2016” I spend 2 days in Banos – 2 days of raining basically 24 hours a day. And even there was certainly much more to see in Banos, travel along Waterfall Cascade from Banos to Puyo was probably best alternative how to spend a rainy day. There it did not matter whether you god wet from the sky or from the waterfalls. Actually 2 days rain definitely helped with amount of water in the river and in all waterfall. But “Pailon del Diablo”- Devil’s Pan which I call Devil’s Waterfall was really outstanding between all these others. Not only it was scenic but mainly powerfull beyond any comparison – partially thanks to the fact I could get so close to it. Obviously there were even bigger nuts around the Devil’s Waterfall and some of them steped far too close to waterfall for my comfort. Just see the movie and judge by yourself.

Devil’s Waterfall was definitely one of 5 (or even 3) best experiences during this trip and with consideration that there was so many stunning places in Ecuador and Galapagos it shows you level of my impression from this place.
