Rogerstone is a large village, ward and community of the city of Newport, southeastern Wales. The area is governed by the Newport City Council. The village falls within the ancient parish of Bassaleg and historic county of Monmouthshire. The parish lies at the gateway to the Sirhowy valley, to the north of Newport on the eastern side of the Ebbw River. It is bounded by the M4 motorway to the south, the Ebbw River to the west, the Henllys vale to the east and the city boundary with Caerphilly county borough to the north. 1. Fourteen Locks Canal & Conference Centre Rogerstone
Fourteen Locks is a series of locks, also known as the Cefn Flight, on the Crumlin arm of the Monmouthshire Canal at Rogerstone in Newport, South Wales. The flight of locks was completed in 1799 and raises the water level 160 ft in just 800 yd . This is one of the steepest rises for a major run in the UK which, combined with the sheer number of locks, makes it one of the most significant in the country. The run of locks includes a series of embanked ponds, pounds, sluices and weirs to control the water supply, with no set of gates shared between individual locks. It therefore comprises a flight of locks rather than a lock staircase.

Aylesbury Town Council St Georges Day Celebrations & Scout Parade

It was a day steeped in traditional English history and culture, dowsed in good-old family fun and entertainment. The ever popular Morris dancing took place in the centre of Market Square, performed by Aldbury Morris. Children (of all ages) tried their hands at archery, sword fighting and even learn the skills required to be a successful jouster. Arrows were forged on an open fire and many took part in a traditional Mummers Play.

Children from the local primary school, Thomas Hickman did battle with our larger than life St George. Lots of games, arts, crafts and a colouring competition was held, alongside pottery painting and crafts from the experts from the Queens Park Arts Centre, there really was lots of fun and entertainment for all the family, all organised by Aylesbury Town Council.

The Annual Scout Parade left Market Square at 2:45pm, led by The Amersham Marching Band, St George and the school dragon with over 200 Scouts, the Mayor, Town Clerk and many dignitaries, including the High Sheriff and Deputy Lord Lieutenant joining in, marching to St Mary’s Church, for the annual affirmation service. Before returning to market square to be formally dismissed by the District Commissioner.

Taffy Tug Railtour 25-08-2013

This is a few shots i got on class 60 (60017 and 60063) on the Taffy Tug Railtour on 25th August 2013. We see the tour at a few locations on the tour. First we see it as 1Z58 going pass us at Hillfield tunnels crossing over the gear junction eading up to Park Junction. We move up the Ebbw Vale line then to Risca south Junction near Rogerstone station. we move quickly to Cearphilly Road bridge wgere we see the tour going up the Machen Branch crossing the Ebbw River bridge and passing bassleg station. Moving up line for the return down the branch running as 1Z59 at Rhiwderin crossing where we see the old station building now a house by the line. The final shot is taken form Duffryn road bridge where see the tour on the mainline heading to Cardiff.
