A visit to Bern, Switzerland
A short stopover in the capitol of Switzerland with visits to the UNESCO Altstadt von Bern, the Zytglogge, the old Town Hall and the beautiful view from the Münsterplattform.
Small hiking in Gurten, viewpoint of Bern City
Instead of taking cable car I did short hiking from the middle station to top of Gurten in Spring. There are parks for barbeque and playground for kids as well as restaurants. Gurten is also famous for downhill mountain biking and disc golf.

This is why we'd be happy to live in Bern
Bern is a beautiful city, there's no doubt about that. From the cobblestone streets of the Old Town, to the Aare River that winds through the city, to the sophisticated yet laid-back feel of the restaurants and boutique stores, it's a city that got our juices flowing.
But it's more than it's beauty and culture that got us excited, it's also one of the most child-friendly cities we've been to so far. There are parks and playgrounds all over the place, plus the Water Fountain at Bundesplatz and the small children’s library in the park next to Bern Cathedral to keep children of all ages happy and entertained. And as they say, happy child happy parent...or something like that!
The beauty of these activities is they're all free, which is especially pleasing in a country as expensive as Switzerland! We got some great advice from Carly who left a comment on our website post 'Bern is not only stunning, but incredibly child friendly' that because Switzerland is so small, one option to reduce costs is to stay overnight in border countries, and take the train in and out of your Swiss destinations each day. I'm not sure if it's more cost effective, but it's definitely something worth looking into. Or if you can secure some Couchsurfing gigs like we did, that also keeps exorbitant accommodation costs down as well.
Either way, if Switzerland is on your list of places to go, whether you're travelling with children or not, Bern is a must see for your itinerary.

Sihl Valley, Sihltal-Sihlwald- Forest-Switzerland-Natural Reserve
Video and Photos made by Cipriano Imperial Dream Production. ©2012 by CID-Production. Sihl Valley (Sihltal) near Zurich, located in Thalwil. Sihl Valley (German: Sihltal) is a river valley and belongs to the Zimmerberg-Sihltal region located in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. Commonly Sihltal is used as the name of the lower Sihl valley, i.e. the area in the southwest of the city of Zürich.Sihl (German pronunciation: [ˈsiːl]) is the name of a 68 km (42 mi) long river located in the cantons of Schwyz (SZ) and Zürich (ZH). The valley compromises parts of the districts of Einsiedeln (SZ) (upper Sihl valley), Horgen (ZH) and Zürich.
The area alongside Lake Zürich had been formed as the left moraine of the Ice Age glacier, the bed of which is now the Lake Zürich and the valley of the Sihl river. Sihl valley is extensively wooded, but also cultivated and heavily populated in its lower parts. The Sihltal is a well-known recreation area and popular for hiking and biking tours along Sihl river and in the surrounding hills. The forest is unbelievable the Sihl River and the awesome and tranquil Sihl Pond with its blooming water lilies and surrounded by reeds.
Every season offers a highlight. A must see and easy to find.
Public Traffic: The lower Sihl valley has an excellent local transportation network: Zimmerberg bus line (Zimmerbergbus) and Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn (SZU) are providing the local public transportation in the Sihl valley, in addition to the Luftseilbahn Adliswil-Felsenegg (LAF for short or commonly Felseneggbahn), an aerial tramway connecting Adliswil and Felsenegg. Sihlbrugg train station is a nodal point of the SBB-CFF-FFS-Gotthardbahn and Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn (SZU) railways. Sihlbrugg Dorf (Sihlwald) is the terminal station of the Zürich S-Bahn on the line S4 (SZU) and a stop on the line S21 to Zürich Hauptbahnhof (VBZ). Nearby the city of Zürich, additional bus lines are provided by the Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich. It is also important as terminal of the A4 motorway between Zug and the canton of Zürich, and of five regional streets in the Sihltal to Zürich, Zug, Langnau am Albis and to Wädenswil (Hirzel Pass).
A walk down Zug mountain, central Switzerland
It makes a very nice walk to take the funicular up the Zugerberg from the ZBB station in Zug and walk down to Unterägeri on the western shore of the Ägerisee lake, still in the canton of Zug. But don’t take my word for it – see for yourself by watching my 1 minute 43 second film of this lovely 1 hour 15 minute walk.
It takes 8 minutes to travel the 925 metres (3,030 feet) to the top of the mountain, from where you have fantastic panoramic views over Lake Zug and all the way to the Swiss Alps. The walk to Unterägeri is downhill through alpine meadows and forest, and about halfway through I turn the sound down on the video so that you can hear the birdsong. Enjoy the film, and, who knows, you may take the real walk some day…..
