Omkareshwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to God Shiva. It is one of the 12 revered Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. It is on an island called Mandhata or Shivapuri in the Narmada river; the shape of the island is said to be like the Hindu ॐ symbol. There are two main temples of Lord Shiva here, one to Omkareshwar located in the island and one to Amareshwar located on the south bank of Narmada River on the mainland. As per the sloka on dwadash jyotirligam, Mamleshwar the other name of Amareshwar is the jyotirling, nonetheless, many consider both Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar equally sacred and representative of jyotirling at this sacred place.

Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar was the Holkar Queen of the Maratha Malwa kingdom, India. Rajmata Ahilyabai was born in the village of Chondi in Jamkhed, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. She moved the capital to Maheshwar south of Indore on the Narmada River. Ahilyabai's husband Khanderao Holkar was killed in the battle of Kumbher in 1754. Twelve years later, her father-in-law, Malhar Rao Holkar, died. A year after that she was crowned as the queen of the Malwa kingdom. She tried to protect her kingdom from plundering invaders. She personally led armies into battle. She appointed Tukojirao Holkar as the Chief of Army. Rani Ahilyabai was a great pioneer and builder of Hindu temples. She built hundreds of temples and Dharmashalas throughout India.

Passing Patalpani waterfalls by meter gauge train -Tourists enjoying the falls...

52964 Sanawad - Dr Ambedkar Nagar(MHOW) MG passenger passing the famous Patalpani waterfalls situated near Mhow, Indore. My train was powered by DADN YDM-4#6736 and banked by DADN YDM-4#6660 (in the ghat section between Kalakund and Patalpani) . Since the rains have picked up very well in Indore region over the last few days, there was a good quantum of water in the waterfalls. I passed this location on a thursday, which happens to be a weekday - but still, there were a large number of tourists who came to witness the waterfalls and the greenery in the nearby mountains.
This meter gauge route which is nearly 150+ years old used to be one of the major route once upon a time connecting Hyderabad to Jaipur. Sadly, over a period of time it got reduced and now only a small stretch of 63 kms remains between Sanawad and Mhow. The new BG route will pass through a new alignment between Choral and Mhow , which means we may not witness the Patalpani waterfalls from a moving train in the future.
