Villa Santa Giulia
Despite its reputation as one of the most exclusive destinations in Europe, Corsica has surprisingly few truly top of the range villas, and those which do exist are rarely available to rent. Combining extraordinary space and light with a highly sought-after position overlooking the bay of Santa Giulia, we are delighted to include this stunning new villa in our programme for 2015. The sleek low lines and minimalist all-white décor offer a unique Modernist touch. The interior proportions are already substantial, but when the glass walls of the living area and master bedroom are slid completely out of sight, the feeling of unrestricted space is exhilarating. Ten minutes’ drive from Porto Vecchio and only eight minutes from the water sports, bars and beach restaurants of celebrated Santa Giulia beach, this villa combines the best of local modern architecture with convenient access to the finest holiday facilities on the island.

Places to see in ( Corsica - France ) Porto Vecchio
Places to see in ( Corsica - France ) Porto Vecchio
Porto-Vecchio is a port town on the French island of Corsica. The walls of a 16th-century Genoese citadel are the backdrop to the old town and offer views over the yacht-filled marina. Shops, bars and restaurants line the town’s narrow streets and main square, Place de la République. Nearby, renowned beaches include Palombaggia, its stretch of sand lined with pine trees, and lagoon-like Santa Giulia.
On the south-eastern coast of Corsica, Porto-Vecchio is a very popular place with tourists. It is a town built on salt marshes and salt continues to play an important role in the town. In fact it was the marshes that prevented earlier development of the town, because they were infested with mosquitoes and malaria until well into the 20th century. If you visit in September you can still witness the annual salt harvest from the Porte Gènoise.
More recently the marshes have been drained and improved communication links have enabled the town to develop its role as seaside resort - a role to which it is admirably suited, given its location overlooking a lovely harbour. After a period of prosperity due to cork production, the town has in recent decades given way to tourism and now has something of a jet-set reputation with several media personalities having second homes here.
It is largely the renowned beaches and coastline to the south of the town that are the big attraction, but the town itself also merits investigation. It is a lively seaside town with a welcoming personality. Start your visit at the marina, an attractive area with the expected cafes and restaurants overlooking the harbour. This area is always good for a meal or a drink or simply a bit of people watching.
The old town of Porto Vecchio sits above the bay and the marina and often has views over the sea. The town is centered around the Place de la Republique and the narrow streets around the square. Place de la Republique is shaded by a huge tree which shades the outdoor tables of the cafes. Next to the square there are some lovely ancient buildings pressing in on narrow streets.
Notable historic monuments here include the imposing genoese entrance into the old town, the Church of Saint John the Baptist, and a fortress - the Bastion de France - and other parts of the historical defences. The granite church is quite distinctive as it is covered in short religious messages such as 'Pardon', 'Charity' and 'love others as I have loved you'. The fortress is now a gallery and hosts various exhibitions.
Porto-Vecchio makes a good base for exploring this part of Corsica - and beach lovers are spoiled for choice. There are several very attractive beaches around the town, in particular to the south of the town, including Palombaggia, Tamaricciu and Santa Giulia beaches, all internationally renowned for their beauty.
When it all gets too hot and crowded on the coast (as it tends to, in the height of summer) the mountainous landscape behind Porto-Vecchio also has a lot of rewarding and interesting scenery to explore, with craggy mountain tops looming from behind the parasol pines from across small mountainous lakes - in particular near the Col du Bavella.

This fabulous island is also an ideal destination for a yacht. Whether you wish to enjoy the sun-kissed stretches of white sand, explore dramatic inland waterfalls and rivers, or go scuba diving and snorkeling, our yacht charter itinerary in Corsica offers something for everyone.
Day 1: Ajaccio
Our Corsica sailing adventure starts from Ajaccio which is the largest city in Corsica and the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. Feel free to explore the city’s landmarks including the 16th-century Notre-Dame Cathedral, Fesch Museum, and Maison Bonaparte before we embark on our journey. On the first day of our yacht charter trip, we will visit all the picturesque areas around Ajaccio and anchor at nearby coves and small inlets.
Day 2: Cargèse
Our first destination outside Ajaccio is the small village of Cargèse that offers plenty of water sports including scuba diving, jet-skiing, wind-surfing, and swimming. Admire the stunning rock formations and go sunbathing on a picturesque sandy beach. In the evening, you can watch the sunset and have dinner at the excellent Bel'mare Hotel. Before we leave, make sure to visit both Latin and the Greek Church in Cargèse.
Day 3: Golfe de Porto / Girolata
On day 3, we will be sailing down the gorgeous west coast of Corsica and along Golfe de Porto until we reach the protected port of Girolata. Being a part of the magnificent Scandola Nature reserve, this area offers excellent anchorage and boasts a variety of wildlife, as well as crystal-clear blue waters. The Genoese tower stands above the village and is definitely worth visiting. Despite its small size, this village has plenty of basic facilities for tourists, as well as a couple of cool restaurants.
Day 4: Calvi
After a nice breakfast on the yacht, it’s time to sail to Calvi, a charming coastal town with cute seafront lined houses and a majestic citadel. The town’s luxury yacht-filled harbor has all the necessary facilities to make your stay here relaxing. It is also just minutes away from the lovely beach of L’Ile Rousse where you can go swimming. In the afternoon, walk along the beautiful boardwalk or climb up to the citadel for an amazing view of Calvi.
Day 5: Golfe de La Revallata / Girolata
On day 5, we are departing early in the morning to the Gulf de La Revellata which is an ideal destination for water activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, and swimming. After a couple of hours relaxing on the beach, we will sail to Girolata to explore all the deserted creeks and small caves. Thanks to the volcanic origin of the island, expect to see plenty of breathtaking landscapes!
Day 6: Capo Rosso / Cala Di Palù
The sixth day of your Corsica yacht charter includes a visit to Capo Rosso and Cala di Palu. This area is perfect for diving, and there are dozens of local dive schools that rent all the necessary equipment. For dinner, we can go to the lovely Hotel des Roches Rouges that offers both local and international cuisine and boats magnificent views from their outdoor veranda.
Day 7: Bay of Sagone
No Corsica yacht charter vacation is complete without visiting the picturesque Bay of Sagone. Dotted with dozens of coves, the Bay of Sagone is home to a number of secluded sandy beaches where you can find some peace and quiet. Water activities such as windsurfing and scuba diving for all diver levels are extremely popular here.
Day 8: Ajaccio
We are ending our 8 day Corsica yacht charter at our departure point, the charming Ajaccio. Consider spending a day here to explore archaeological sites, cute hilltop towns, and an abundance of excellent restaurants and bars.

Places to see in ( Porto Vecchio - France ) Palombaggia
Places to see in ( Porto Vecchio - France ) Palombaggia
Palombaggia is the most famous beach in Corsica, and has justifiably been voted one of the Top 10 best beaches in Europe.
This much-loved, flawless beach inevitably gets exceptionally busy in peak season. Given its popularity it pays to arrive early in the morning and to reserve a good spot.
Flanked by mountains and umbrella-shaped pines, Palombaggia is a beautiful 2 km stretch of powdery golden sand and shallow crystal clear blue water (which deepens gradually). The pink granite headlands that enclose the beach add to the rich variety of colours in this delightful beach. Palombaggia beach is in protected nature site and is cleaned regularly. The beach faces the archipelago of Cerbicale (attractive uninhabited small islands).
Palombaggia is lifeguarded in season, and offers various water sport facilities, making it an ideal beach for families with energetic children. Sea excursions to the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio, Cerbicales Islands and Lavezzi are also available. There are ample snack bars and sun-bed hire.
The crowds can be overwhelming in summer. It is therefore worth while walking further along this vast stretch of beach to escape the masses. The northern end of Palombaggia beach (best parking) is the busiest, and also narrowest, part of the beach. Further to the south the beach widens and becomes less crowded. There is a cordoned swimming area here, with some snorkelling by the rocky areas close to the beach.
