Serra Geral do Tocantins Ecological Station is an ecological station in the states of Bahia and Tocantins, Brazil. It is one of the largest such units in the country, and protects a sparsely populated area of the cerrado biome. The main threat comes from frequent fires set by the local people in order to create cattle pasturage.

This is the campsite of the Timbira and Jalapao tribes, used to film Survivor Tocantins (a television program on CBS in the United States) from October through mid-December of 2008. It is located in the Jalapao park.

The Mumbuca village in Jalapao park, Tocantins, Brazil - near Mateiros, Tocantins

The great grandmother of the Mumbucas, Dona Laurina Ribeiro, was a descendent of slaves who fled Bahia in 1909 to search for a better life. Her 150 descendants live to this day in the Mumbuca village (quilombola) in Jalapao. Today the community is led by her two daughters, Guilhermina Ribeiro da Silva [Dona Miuda], 80 years old, and Dona Laurentina Ribeiro, 85 years old. Dona Miuda learned from artisanry from the indians she found in Jalapao.

Scobinancistrus sp. L253 is an undescribed Loricariid catfish that is found in the middle and upper Rio Xingu, Brazil. This specimen is a sub-adult around 20cm/8 and was imported by Pier Aquatics, UK.

Filmed on a Canon 60D with a 18-55mm STM lens, using high ISO.
