A long, 10-hour driving day ahead. Skirting the shores of Lake Van, the drive led through the small town of Bitlis that was once an important stop on the Silk Road. An impregnable castle built for Alexander the Great was visible above but with Kurdish sentiment running high, Oz (guide) didn't want to stop. Bitlis is also known for its many only houses of cut stone but all we could do is try to catch fast glances as the bus drove through town.

The Tesselaar Tulip festival located an hour away Melbourne is the largest flower show in Australia. It was started in 1954 by Dutch immigrants namely Tesselaar and Cees. The festival happens during September and October each year and has almost a million tulips. Despite tulips being the highlight of this festival, it also features market stalls, street food and themed celebrations such as Turkish, Dutch and Irish weekends. We start in 1958 with the introduction of the Boeing 707 Jet aircraft and the beginning of the end of Ocean Liners. Within 1 year of the launch of the 707, more people crossed the Atlantic Ocean by jet than by stream ship. The Queen Mary the worlds premier Ocean Liner went out of service by 1968 and was sold off by Cunard to a group of investors who turned her into a floating hotel and museum. She sits in Long Beach California today as a hotel and she is a time machine to the long lost era of steam ships. Check out the video to catch up to 1979.
