We show you the best things to do at the black sea coast of Bulgaria in this episode and give tips for excursions and tours you should do when you visit.
Bulgaria has so much more sights than just the beaches like golden sands and sunny beach - it also has more things to do than just drinking cheap alcohol and joining the parties:
The ancient towns of Sozopol and Nesebar are amongst the oldest cities of Bulgaria and are very nice located - totally worth a visit!
Varna is one of the biggest cities of the country and therefore a bit more hustling and bustling, but if you head out of town e.g. to Raponggi Beach you also find some quiet spots to relax.
Especially the coast north of Varna with it's cliffs is very stunning, the following spots have been our favorite places at the black sea coast:
- Cape Kaliakra
- Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort
- Botanical Garden of Balchik
In the next episode of our Balkan Road Trip we'll visit Skopje in Macedonia!

The Seaside Ancient Town of Sozopol - Bulgaria
David’s Been Here is traveling through Bulgaria in search of the country’s most interesting and unique visits. Making his way down the southern Black Sea coast, David explores the ancient seaside town of Sozopol. Founded by Greek settlers in the 7th century BC, this southern Black Sea hub was once one of the region’s most important trade ports. Just 35 kilometers outside of Burgas, visitors will love this easily accessible & historic day trip. With a colorful harbor, medieval walls and towers lining the coastline and its quaint, traditional air, Sozopol should be on all travelers’ must-see list.

This video is a short story of a 10 days vacation trip on the Bulgarian seaside, visiting beautiful virgin beaches, historical places, unique places for some photography, local restaurants, wake boarding and wind surfing areas etc. I have uploaded this video to remind people that camping is really fun and that it is up to you to decide where to sleep and that you are more mobile with the places you want to visit. In this video story there are shots from: Camping Gradina, Sozopol, Chervenka, Varvara, Ahtopol, Camping Delfin, Sinemorets, Ropotamo and Veleka rivers, Rezovo (the extreme southeast point of Bulgaria and the European union), Silistar, Kavatsi beach, Beglik Tash (A Thracian rock sanctuary, from the Early Iron Age (10th-6th century BC), St. Parashkeva beach and Arkutino.
Special thanks to our friends from Akasha surfing school (Sinemorets), who shared with us the secrets of wind surfing :)

Planning a trip to Veliko Tarnovo? David’s Been Here walks you through all the top things to see and do in this historic Bulgarian city. First-time visitors will be swept off their feet by the medieval beauty of this former Bulgarian capital, with the tourist-friendly Rakovski Street, Holy 40 Martyrs Church, Assen Monument and sprawling 12th century Tsaravets Fortress built into the colorful Veliko Tarnovo hillside. Catch some amazing views over the city from Tsaravets’ Cathedral or walk along the picturesque walls of this amazing medieval stronghold. For dining options in the city, Van Hassan Restaurant is a great family-friendly spot to try out some traditional Bulgarian fare, and the old town’s Shtastliveca Restaurant is known for their extensive menu and upscale ambiance. For a more casual experience, Ego Pizza and Grill is a great place to try some Mediterranean cuisine or enjoy a wood-fired, homemade pizza. With light and sound shows put on weekly and loads of other attractions to explore, this central Bulgarian city is one of the country’s most memorable.
