Paris, France Travel Guide - Canal St-Martin
Emmanuelle shows you where the locals go to get away from the city life.
Location:
10th Arrondissement
Canal St-Martin is where Parisians come to take a break from the city life. You can walk, you can bike, you can dine and even shop. Napoleon was responsible for the construction of the canal in the early 1800's. Back then, many poor people were living here, unlike today, where the rich crowd apartments with a view of the canal. There are many boat tours here, to show you the 81 mile long Canal St-Martin along is a (unclear) on the history of this area.
On the weekends, the streets along the canal are turned into biking and pedestrian areas. When you are hungry, you can eat at any one of the restaurants along the canal. They are cozy, they are small and you can find very good food. There are many budget hotels in this area. If you do not want to do anything else, you can come to the canal and skip stones in the water, like Amelie in the famous movie. This is Emmanuelle, showing you Paris.

Capital of France
Paris, France's capital, is a major European city and a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy, and culture. Its 19th-century cityscape is crisscrossed by wide boulevards and the River Seine.
Beyond such landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the 12th-century, Gothic Notre-Dame cathedral, the city is known for its cafe culture and designer boutiques along the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.

Traditional shopping galleries in Paris
This video shows a very small sample of the many traditional shopping galleries in Paris, most of which date from the 1800s or so. They are scattered all over town, but I selected several of the better known galleries in just one neighborhood as an illustration. Maybe someday I'll undertake a project to do them all.
Walking Around Les Halles
A quarter-hour stroll around the area of the Forum and Les Halles in Paris, France. The actual Forum is being rebuilt and will be a construction zone for the next few years, but I visit the surrounding neighborhood, including the Place Beaubourg in front of the Pompidou Center, the various streets in the area, and so on. A few street performers are included, as well as the Quartier de l'Horloge. A nice visit to a very busy area—even on a weekday, when this was filmed.
Closed captions provide narration if you want it.
Paris: The Local Way - Shopping in the Canal Saint-Martin Neighborhood
Far from the Champs-Élysées are the small streets that run perpendicular to the Canal Saint-Martin, and here you will find some of the more unique, independent boutiques in Paris. Known for its bobo (bohemian bourgeois) residents, this neighborhood has some of the hippest places to shop, and our hosts take you to a few places you can't miss when shopping around Canal Saint-Martin.

Place du Marché Saint-Honoré, Paris, France
A six-minute visit to the place du Marché Saint-Honoré. Four hundred years ago it was a convent. Two hundred years ago it was an open food market. Sixty years ago it was turned into a parking garage. Now it's a modern office and shopping building, hidden among much older buildings near the heart of Paris.
