THE BEST PLACE TO SEE WILDLIFE IN BORNEO, KINABATANGAN MALAYSIA VLOG
CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE:
On our second day in Sukau on the Kinabatangan river we get up early for a sunrise river cruise, taking in the epic scenery and spotting some incredible and rare wildlife only found in Borneo. We then hit a mid morning jungle trek, checking out some hideous leeches and loads of weird and wonderful insects... back to the homestay for a spot of fishing and i'm proud to say I caught a cheeky little catfish... we head off on another afternoon cruise and then a night time jungle walk! Another epic day discovering Borneo and i'd highly recommend staying at Maria's homestay for the 3 day 2 night cruise tour:

Malaysia - Borneo Natural Bilit Sakau Resort
Located right on the Sungai Kinabatangan, Sabah's longest river. The Borneo Natural Bilit Sukau Resort has very nice accommodation built with native materials. The bungalows have A/C, fan and beds with baldaquins. Nice traditional style but clean and spacious. Rooms with personality! Activities are river tours: late afternoon river cruise to spot many types of birds, proboscis monkeys, macaques, and perhaps crocodiles and pygmy elephants. After this 2h1/2 hour trip you come back at the resort for a buffet dinner followed by a night walk around the property to see some animals sleeping like insects and birds. After a great night of sleep, you can participate to a 6am river tour, giving you more chance to see the wild animals clinging to the jungle bordering the river. After the tour, a breakfast awaits you before a bus might take you to your next destination. You will have a fun 2day/1night experience!

Kinabatangan River Safari - Borneo, Sabah, Malaysia
The Kinabatangan River (Malay: Sungai Kinabatangan) is a river in Sabah, Malaysia. It is the second longest river in Malaysia, with a length of 560 kilometres from its headwaters in the mountains of southwest Sabah, to its outlet at the Sulu Sea, east of Sandakan.
Kinabatangan is known for its remarkable wildlife and fascinating habitats such as limestone caves at Gomantong hill, dryland dipterocarp forests, riverine forest, freshwater swamp forest, oxbow lakes and salty mangrove swamps near the coast.
The ecology of the upper reaches of the river has been severely disrupted by excessive logging and clearing of land for plantations. However, the original lowland forests and mangrove swamps near the coast have largely survived, provide sanctuary for a population of saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus), and contain some of Borneo's highest concentrations of wildlife. Of special note are Borneo's indigenous proboscis monkeys, Bornean orangutan and Asian elephants. The area is also known for its great variety of birdlife.
In Sukau, many of the major tour operators maintain lodges. All lodges offer packages, which usually include transport, accommodation, food, river cruises, and guiding services. However, most of the money spent in these Lodges leaves the area. Visitors should also check locally run bed & breakfast and homestay accommodation.
Further up Kinabatangan river at the villages of Bilit or Batu Putih you could opt to stay with the local Orang Sungai people in the Miso Walai homestay program part or a Sabah National Project. Nearby the villages there are beautiful series of oxbow lakes. They provide accommodation, food, jungle guides, boat trips, fishing and other activities. They also have recently built an eco-lodge in the jungle nearby one of the oxbow lakes – Tungog lake.
We would like to thank our guide Mr. Boy from Sepilok Tropical Wildlife Adventure for the excellent presentation.
Thanks for watching!
