Philippine Bird Festival 2018 in Tacurong City

A unique attraction in Tacurong City, this site was formerly a black pepper plantation. Today, this 2.5-hectare land is home to over 20,000 wild migratory birds such as cattle egret, black-crowned night heron, great egret, and rufous night-heron. For bird watchers, the place is a must-visit due to the sheer number of birds living here. The land belongs to the family of Rey Malena, who in the mid-nineties, spotted four egrets in their peppercorn farm. The birds found the place peaceful and eventually sought refuge in the area. More birds started coming to their farm, until it became more of a bird sanctuary than a place to grow peppercorns. On 2002, the city government declared Baras Bird Sanctuary an ecotourism destination.

This video is all about the beautiful country that is the province of Sox (Soccsksargen) Philippines.

Adventures of Gerald and Rhia honors and pays reverence and tribute to this great province. We are staying true to our love for travel as main inspirations that led to the creation our channel that aims to explore and document life's wonders.

SOCCSKSARGEN (SOX) is a region of the Philippines, located in south central Mindanao, and is officially designated as Region XII. The name is an acronym that stands for the region's four (4) provinces, five (5) the provinces are Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sarangani and Sultan Kudarat and the cities are Cotabato, General Santos, Kidapawan, Koronadal, and Tacurong. Koronadal City is the administrative center of Region XII and is located in South Cotabato. The regional center is Koronadal City located in the province of South Cotabato. Cotabato City itself is part of SOCCSKSARGEN, but Maguindanao is part of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. SOX is the region’s nickname that is intended for marketing promotions and easy recall. The region is branded as the 12th paradise of the Philippines.

SOCCSKSARGEN or SOX is a region of colorful and vibrant festivals. Every town here has their own celebrations. This 2017, its time for you to discover and experience the best of SOX - nature, adventure and culture through our various festivities.

The oldest civilization in the region is located in Maitum, Sarangani, where the Maitum Anthropomorphic Pottery were found. The jars have been declared as National Cultural Treasures, and are subject to the high protections ensured by Philippine and international laws.

The region used to be named Central Mindanao.
