Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, Ghana
Today I travelled a short distance to reach a place in central Ghana known as Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary. The truth is, it's not so much a sanctuary as it is a place where the local people protect the monkeys. The story is that these two villages in Ghana believe that any harm done to the monkeys will result in the same harm done to them. Thus, the monkeys at Boabeng-Fiema are allowed to run free through the villages without worrying if people will attack them. Around sunset every day, dozens of monkeys descend on Boabeng-Fiema stealing food, and playing among the people. It was loads of fun to watch.
Tomorrow I'm continuing south in Ghana towards Kumasi, stay tuned!

VOPAC village homestay near Bolgatanga
We stayed here in 2006 while on our way to Timbuktu Mali and this is where we met Rashed Anaba who is now our partner in our non profit organization that is building clean water wells in the country of Ghana. I have heard that VOPAC is no longer operational but I am sure you can still organize something like this by asking around in Bolga. Find out more about me at my blog
