Hi, This is the 5th video blog. Thanks for following.
Today I would like to introduce to you the KOINOBORI.

Koinobori is a carp-shaped flag. the way the flags blow in the wind looks like they are swimming.

Japanese consider that carp is full of energy and power fish, that is able to swim up a river and overcome all obstacles like cascades. The parents, by using this flag, would like to give this determination to their sons.

Many families display one Koinobori for each son.

It seems everything started in Kamakura. During the Kamakura period, the samurai clans started the custom of displaying their flags on the fifth day of the fifth month. That custom, the common people began to copy and popularized the use of flags.

May 5th is one of the seasonal festivals in Japan (Gosekku 五節句).
The origin of these days is from the Chinese Tang Dynasty,
The nowadays meaning comes from the Japanese Edo Period

There are many places where are spectacular landscapes with Koinobori, this year I have chosen:
Ryujinotsuri Bridge
Ryujin Large Suspension Bridge
竜神大吊橋

Ryujinyo Suspension Bridge
Is located at the Okukuji park in the Ibaraki Prefecture.

Ryujin is one of the eight dragon kings which were originally imported from Indian mythology via China and Korea
