How to get there?
Head southeast on Senai-Desaru Highway towards Desaru.
Exit at Penawar toll (check toll fares).
Go straight, follow the signboard to “Tanjung Balau” or “Pelangi Balau Resort”.
Turn left after pass by Pelangi Balau Resort.
Arriving at Tanjung Balau Beach.

Kota Tinggi offers a wide range of things to do throughout the year. Desaru Beach is something every visitor must see. Whether you are interested in fishing, boating, swimming, or just spreading out under the casuarina trees, you can do it here. Within the Teluk Sengat Village, tourists can come face-to-face with real crocodiles. Workers at the crocodile farm will show visitor how they feed and raise these prehistoric creatures. If you are brave enough, you can hold, or even kiss a baby crocodile!

What I love about this cafe is they sell cute and unique souvenir. They also have a mini workshop. For example pressed flower workshop when I was there.
Upstairs is where you can find the art exhibition from local or international artist. It was nice.
Desaru Beach Johor
DEASRU BEACH-Johor-West Malaysia
DESARU, the popular beach resort, is located on the eastern tip of the peninsula. Its clean sandy beaches with a lush tropical forest that goes for about 25 kilometres has made it a favorite spot for holiday-makers both local and foreign. To meet with the demand, there are many resorts and hotels here that cater to a variety of budget.
Its casuarina trees-lined beach and clean water has made many water sporting activities such as snorkeling, fishing, boating and canoeing possible. If you're not into that, you can also opt for horseback riding, tennis, golfing, or jungle trekking.
The sands on the beach is also unique, as it is rather grayish in color and the depth of the seabed from the beach is relatively shallow although you are 50 metres into the sea. However, without a doubt, Desaru has one of the best beaches in mainland Johor.
If time permits, do pay a visit to Tanjung Pengelih where the relics from World War II is kept. You can also view the historical artifacts from the Malay Johor Riau Empire at Johor Lama.
How to get there
DESARU is easily accessible as there are public transportation from Johor Bahru, Kota Tinggi or Tanjung Belungkor. From those coming from Singapore and other northern areas, you can opt to travel by road through Kota Tinggi or by ferry from Changi Point, Singapore. The journey will take about 1-1/2 hours from Johor Bahru to Desaru.

Lotus Desaru Beach
Lotus Desaru Beach was much hyped in the 80s with quite a few mega projects aimed at attracting foreign investment and visitors, which have since been abandoned. Today, it's strictly a local affair with the occasional Singaporeans thrown in: there are no chic boutiques, fancy restaurants or hip nightlife spots, just 22 kilometers of beach and a few aging resorts.
After a period of neglect, recently Desaru has become popular with tourists wishing to see a true Malay resort without for-tourists frills, and pundits have been predicting a renaissance since the much-delayed expressway from Johor Bahru opened in 2011.
