This Is Why You Should Travel to COSTA RICA
As a country that is still opening up to tourism, Costa Rica is beautifully unspoilt. With hot, dry weather in winter, and wildlife wherever you turn, it is a stunning destination for sun-seekers, animal lovers and adventurers. And in 2019, it has never been easier for all types of tourists to visit.
The Costa Rican national motto “pura vida”, literally “pure life”, has attracted backpackers for decades. Used by locals as a greeting to mean “take it easy” or “enjoy life”, the phrase sums up the country’s laid-back vibe.
But Costa Rica doesn’t just attract a backpacking crowd any more. Thanks to a series of new non-stop flights from Europe, the country is attracting more families and couples as well.
A three-and-a-half-hour flight from Houston, Texas, it has typically attracted more tourists from North America. But while package hotels close to the airport still draw a large American crowd, eco-lodges further down the coast are aimed more at Europeans.
Costa Rica prides itself on being one of the world’s most sustainable countries; rather than star ratings, the Costa Rican tourist board awards hotels with “leaves” for their eco efforts.
Locals are keen to protect their natural surroundings for good reason. Costa Rica is teeming with wildlife, boasting more species of birds than all of North America. The parrot-like quetzal and red-eyed tree frog are most distinctively Costa Rican, but the country boasts a much wider variety of animals than those pictured on the front of guide books.
To see some of Costa Rica’s most renowned natural delights, it’s necessary to brave some treacherous roads: the only downside to visiting so unspoilt a country are the rocky tracks that make even the shortest journeys tiring. The roads along the coast of the Nicoya Peninsula are particularly bad – unless you get your thrills from driving through mini rivers. A 4×4 is essential in rainy season, and strongly advised even in dry months.
Costa Rica’s 12 climate zones mean the weather can vary drastically, and it is notably different in wet, overcast Monterverde to the balmy beaches in Nicoya Peninsula. The Caribbean coastline is the most humid, while Guanacaste – in the north of the peninsula – receives the least rain.
The beaches in the area are largely volcanic, which add to their prehistoric feel. Palm trees, rugged foliage and dark sand give the more remote shores a distinct Jurassic Park sensation. White sandy beaches can be found further down the coast. At the region’s southern tip, Santa Teresa and Montezuma beaches attract surfers who come for a season of wave-catching – or do so and never leave. Tourists dominate Santa Teresa town, but the long, golden beach makes it worth a visit.
Costa Rica offers plenty to do for everyone, from horse riding to paddle boarding. But the prospect of moving from the pool was too much for most of my family when we stayed in an Airbnb in Guanacaste. The thought of turning into a sloth became far more appealing than actually seeing one. We all took the “pura vida” to heart. Anyone visiting Costa Rica would struggle not to.

Our visit Nuremberg travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (Nuremberg Bratwurst, beer and pretzels), top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting castles, churches and museums. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Nuremberg tourism brochure, Nuremberg itinerary or Nuremberg, Germany city tour.
10 Things to do in Nuremberg, Germany travel guide video transcript:
We started our day by taking the U-bahn to the centre of town and getting off at Lorenzkirche. This put us on the south bank of the Pegnitz River, where we took the opportunity to browse some markets before visiting St Lorenz Church.
This is a beautiful gothic church complete with pointed vaults, stained glass windows, and sculptures.
From there we walked across one of the city’s many bridges and continued on to the Beautiful Fountain (yes, that’s the name), searching for a bit of good luck.
One of Nuremberg’s most famed attractions is the Imperial Castle located in the northwest end of the Old Town. The castle is a testament to the power of the Holy Roman Empire during the middle ages.
And we couldn’t come all the way to Nuremberg and not try the famed Nuremberger sausage! We went to Bratwursthäusle, right in the heart of the Old Town by St Sebaldus Church.
Later that afternoon we went into Nuremberg’s deep underground on a tour of the historic beer cellars. Nuremberg has been a beer brewing city for centuries.
While in town, we also took a walk down Weißgerbergasse, which may just be one of the prettiest streets in Nuremberg. This curved cobbled street is lined with half-timbered houses.
Albrecht Dürer’s one time home is now a museum dedicated to his life and work. He was a German Renaissance artist across many mediums, but he is best known for revolutionizing printmaking and elevating it as an art form. At certain times of day, they offer a guided tour with an actress who plays the role of Agnes Dürer, the artist’s wife.
The bridge we were looking for is the Heilig-Geist-Spital, or the Holy Spirit Hospital. It’s not a bridge in the usual sense of the word, rather a medieval building that sits across part of the Pegnitz River.
On a more serious note, we couldn’t leave Nuremberg without also visiting the Dokuzentrum, also known as the The Documentation Center Nazi Party Rallying Grounds.
And that’s a wrap for a our guide to Nuremberg, Germany. If you have any other suggestions of cool things to do in Nuremberg, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below.
This is part of our Travel in Germany video series showcasing German food, German culture and German cuisine.

Mallorca, Spain Travel Guide
Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of La Calobra in Mallorca, where its visitors can explore the streets and relax
in one of the small well priced cafes around the port.
Wild Cicadas chirp, the fragrance of pine trees, sparkling sunshine, sky high wild cliffs, below among the pines the turquoise blue bay and the white sand, eagles circle around the peak. The coast of the Mediterranean Sea is full of beautiful beaches, each can be loved for a different reason but there are few so special as La Calobra. The fascinating ground rock basin is like a stadium. Inside there is a pebbly beach created by the rolling estuary of a wild stream, it is a bit like a scenery of spectacular rest room films. If you want to skip the tiring climb you can get there in two different ways from Soller, a more than 30 kilometer long steep road full of 360 degree turns, the so-called snake serpentine leads here. Rail built pedestrian tunnels lead from the parking lot to the beach. The other possibility is the voyage from the harbor of Soller promising totally different sites. However we come, we will experience the most interesting swimming experience of our life. But when high season we have to share this with a few hundred other people.
If we observe the sunset here, and it gets dark on us, we find not only good restaurants around the parking place but familiar small guest houses as well. We can have beautiful trips in the wild and romantic land.

Day 20: Flying from Stockholm to Barcelona on Lufthansa. We woke up early in the morning and headed to the Stockholm airport, and flew with Lufthansa to Barcelona. It was a long day of flying, and after arriving to Barcelona and checking into our hotel I had my first taste of tapas.
00:54 Bus to airport - 119 SEK ($13.86) per person and Stockholm Arlanda Airport - We caught the bus from our hotel area in Stockholm to the airport. At the airport, after checking into our flight with Lufthansa, we had a quick breakfast as the lounge and continued onto our flight.
3:22 Star Alliance Flight #6 Lufthansa: Stockholm to Barcelona - We actually had two legs to our flights, first was from Stockholm to Frankfurt and then from Frankfurt to Barcelona. It was a business class flight, but on the shorter business class flights, they aren’t really much different from economy class from what I found. Overall, good flights with Lufthansa.
6:51 Arriving to Barcelona - Airport Metro ride - 4.50 EUR ($5.05) per person. After landing in Barcelona and passing through customs, we bought our tickets for the metro and headed to Passeig de Gràcia, which is one of the central areas of Barcelona and where our hotel was located.
8:16 Cotton House Hotel, Autograph Collection - After emerging from the metro into the center of Barcelona it was just a short walk to get to our hotel from Passeig de Gràcia metro station. We checked into the Cotton House Hotel, which is a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel. It’s a very nice boutique and classic heritage hotel in Barcelona.
10:49 Tapas at Ciudad Condal - To be honest, both Ying and I were pretty tired when we arrived to Barcelona and after checking into the hotel and relaxing for a while, we were hungry but didn’t want to go far to eat dinner, and additionally, many dinner restaurants in Barcelona don’t open until 8 or 9 pm. So we decided to have some tapas as our dinner, and luckily there was a tapas restaurants just a very short walk from our hotel. The tapas at Ciudad Condal were pretty good and I especially enjoyed the octopus with potato and the fried mini string potatoes with egg.
It was another great day, but a pretty tiring day on our round the world trip. But stay tuned for some serious food and attraction videos in Barcelona!

Friendship journey #12: US road trip & Chinese beach life
2000 miles, 10 days and countless memories: Yvonne, Jed and Panos are on a road trip from Austin to San Francisco. What they see is breathtaking nature. They go from the hot Valley of Fire to the snow-covered area of Mammoth Lakes which is famous for bears. Are they lucky to see a bear?
Team East arrives in China - not the mainland, but the tropical island Hainan. They enjoy the sea together with their host Mike, join an English class and face a typhoon.
What is Yuujou?
Six genuine people from different cultural backgrounds set out on a unique adventure to show the power of friendship around the world. The international media art project Yuujou is an excellent example for humanity and the wonders that can be achieved if we only open ourselves to connecting with others.
Yuujou is a 100-day travel adventure from Berlin to Tokyo! Through an extraordinary travel experiment Yuujou wants to show the importance of friendship. In April 2019, two teams of three people each start their journey in Berlin. One team goes east, the other one west. Within 100 days, both teams try to make it to the other side of the world – Japan. The journey is a real adventure! The route unfolds along the way, because the travelers only travel from one friend to another: The next stop must be a friend of the previous friend. If the teams meet again in Japan, a chain of friendship around the world is created.
