Places to see in ( Savona - Italy )
Savona is a port city in Liguria, northwest Italy. The 1500s Priamar Fortress houses the Sandro Pertini Museum, with works by Guttuso and Miró. A 17th-century statue of Mary adorns the medieval tower Torre Leon Pancaldo. The Ceramics Museum spans the 15th century to the present. Northwest, Colle di Cadibona pass marks the start of a stretch on the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri trekking route, with sea and mountain views.
From Varazze to Andora, it is 598 sq. mi. of coast, valleys and mountains. Here, winter or summer, life is lived amongst the blue sea and the green of olives and pines. A territory with unique panoramas and a mild climate eased by the sea allows for comfortable living all year-round on the Riviera. Expansive sandy beaches alternate with rocky promontories encapsulating suggestive, uncontaminated shores. Vivacious coastal resorts offer guests a vast choice of where to stay, where to dine and where to go for a night out; whether in beach resorts, restaurants and clubs, there is always the option of environments suitable for both children and adults.
The towns' historical centers, with their characteristic narrow streets (carruggi) that open out onto sunny little piazzas and wind past houses with façades of typical Mediterranean colors and unique architectural elements. Here lie the towns of Alassio, with its beach of very fine sand and its famous Muretto; Loano and its artistic fountains; Pietra Ligure with its monumental square; Finale Ligure and its ample palm-lined seafront; Varigotti with its old center of colorful houses right on the waterfront; and Spotorno, celebrated by Sbarbaro and Varazze and boasting a modern marina.
Medieval Savona offers enchanting views recalling the florid city it became between the 15th and 16th Centuries. This was when Popes originated from the local Della Rovere Family. Next to the old resides a modern city with a renewed docks and fashionable attractions. The Pinacoteca Civica di Savona is an excellent Ligurian gallery of paintings on wood and splendid polyptychs, ceramic vases and wooden sculpture work, dating from the 14th Century to the current day.
The historical center of Albenga stands out with its towers and alleyways between medieval palazzi that house museums and art collections. The Battistero or Baptistry is one of the most important early Christian monuments in Liguria. Eight of the towns here are listed among the most beautiful in Italy: Noli, an ancient maritime republic; Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena, developed around its castle; Finalborgo, a mMedieval jewel; Millesimo, with its fortified “Gaietta” Bridge; Colletta di Castelbianco, the first on-line village in Europe; Laigueglia, a colorful fishing village; Zuccarello, with its porticoed street; and Verezzi, a natural stage for its Festival Teatrale Internazionale.
The Italian Touring Club has also given its special Orange Flag award to Sassello, Toirano and Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena for their development policies that promote their cultural, touristic and environmental heritage. Toirano and Borgio Verezzi are famous for their grottos, rich in archaeological finds and fascinating rock formations. Artistic handicraft is marvellously expressed by the ceramics of Albisola and Savona, and the glass works of Altare. Thanks to the ancient tradition of nimble craftsmen, these creations are known throughout the world.

4K - Into the Caves of Toirano (SV, IT) - A wonder of nature! - XiaoYi 4K 2 + NIKON DSLR D3300
Filming and photography made on June, 9th 2017. The Caves of “Toirano”, a small village in the province of Savona, county “Liguria”, Italy, date back at millions of years ago. The Caves were discovered in 1950 and human remains from the Palaeolithic age were found inside, therefore these remains can be dated back at least 12340 years ago. Some remains belonging to a number of cave bears were also found (and shown in the video). There are at least 50 caves in total, of which only 11 are actually open to the public. The path open to public inside the caves spans for over 1.3 km, about 0.8 miles. These caves represent one of the most extraordinary and outstanding examples of a wonder of the natural world. If you can, watch on a large screen and till the end!
Videos shot with the XiaoYi 2 in 4K@30fps, photos shot with the NIKON DSLR D3300 at the maximum resolution (6000x4000 FINE). Video editing/mixing/post-production made with MAGIX Video Deluxe 2017 Plus & CyberLink’s PowerDirector 15 Ultimate. Final rendering in 4K UHD 3840@2160 @30fps, at 45Mb/s bitrate.
NOTICE:. Some video clips are not perfect, due to the severe low light conditions found in places inside the caves, therefore these are slightly affected by “noise”: some overall video improvements have been achieved in post, though, through a bit of GAMMA/HDR and color/contrast enhancement/correction, plus video de-noising and application of proper filters in CyberLink’s PowerDirector.
Special thanks go the staff and personnel of the “Caves of Toirano” who kindly permitted the filming and photography during the visit (which are NOT forbidden, BTW, inside the caves but that shall be kept, understandably, to a reasonable level, due to the intrinsic nature of a guided tour and time limits/restrictions that therefore apply in this case): the visit was in fact guided and in group, and lasted about 75 minutes.

Villa Giorgina, a Luxury Seafront Villa in Liguria - Italian Luxury Asset -
Villa Giorgina rests on one of region Liguria’s most scenic sections of coastal residential real estate.
The House
Surrounded by a large park that protects it and makes it exclusive and independent.
Also protected by the urban plan of the Municipality of Varazze preventing new construction in the area.
The independent position, secluded, but easy to reach, makes this villa attractive as a :
. Private residence (back to its origin)
. Representative office for a company.
. Holiday villa on the luxury tourist circuit
. Boutique hotel
Curiosities
Villa Giorgina was originally built in 1898 for Donna Elvira di Borbone, the daughter of Don Carlos di Borbone who was disowned by her father because of her love for the painter Carlo Folchi.
The Location
Villa Giorgina is located on the coast of Varazze 60 meters above sea level giving spectacular panoramic views.
500 meters from the exit of Varazze and a few minutes drive from the center of town (about 2 km), Villa Giorgina is half an hour from the international airport Cristoforo Colombo of Genoa, a few hours from Milan and little more from the Swiss border .
One hour from Portofino and less than two hours from “Cinque Terre“.
One hour and a half from Monte Carlo and France (Nice and Cannes).
Liguria is the half of a mountain valley, the second half, in front, is the sea.
Someone says that the coast of Corsica is this second half, detached millions of years ago.
Region Liguria is divided into four provinces corresponding to the main areas (from east to west):
1. La Spezia and its surroundings (Portovenere, Lerici, Cinque Terre)
2. Genoa and its surroundings (Arenzano, Nervi, Rapallo, Santa Margherita, Portofino, Chiavari, Zoagli and Sestri Levante)
3. Savona and its surroundings (Varazze, Celle, Albisola, Spotorno, Noli, Finale Ligure, Albenga, Alassio)
4. Imperia and its surroundings (Sanremo, Bordighera, Ventimiglia). Moving along the coast, the landscape changes slightly, as well as the climate. Roughly we can say that the east coast is narrower and steeper than the west (Cinque Terre vs Bordighera), and that each bay has a different landscape, colors and climate (The Imperia province is normally 5 degrees warmer than the other areas in Liguria).
This can be proved tasting the “focaccia” a typical ligurian food, that changes its flavor, its thickness and its receipt every few kilometers from La Spezia to Ventimiglia passing through the “Recco cheese focaccia”, the typical Genovese “fugassa” (plain or with onions), the Finalese focaccia with rosemary to finish with the Sardenaira of Sanremo with olives, tomatoes and anchovies (but don’t call it pizza please!).
Same story with “farinata” another typical Ligurian food that takes its origins from the middle east.
Liguria is also a cradle of Humankind and this is evident especially in the west side (Finale Ligure, Toirano, Balzi Rossi) because of the limestone ground where caves were formed and gave hospitality to the first inhabitants.
This continues in France into the Verdun Valley forming, together, a prehistoric wide area.
The variety of landscapes allows visitors to enjoy many experiences so it is very difficult to have a boring vacation in Liguria.
Logistics
Genoa Airport (GOA) is located in the centre of Liguria, it is close to town (15 minutes) and also to the Savona coast (Varazze, Celle, Albisola).
La Spezia is one hour from Genoa Airport (GOA) or Pisa (PSA).
Imperia is closer to Nice Airport (NCE).
Not to forget that Turin and Milan are less than two hours from Genoa (by car or train) and from Genoa it is possible to reach the Swiss boundaries in two hours.
There is another airport in Albenga (ALL) that is connected with Rome.
Development
Villa Giorgina is currently under a project of development.
Our partner architect was recently appointed by the owner to conduct this work.
The project is in progress and is addressed to develop a design to allow a change in the property’s destination (acceptable to authorities) – from its actual use as an hostel to a new, more appropriate destination.
Restoration Project
The restoration project forsees the reorganization of the internal spaces and the creation of an outdoor pool to be used as a swimming pool during summer, and as a collector for rain water.
An elevator placed in the little tower next to the existing stairs, will ease access to all floors (basement, ground, first and second floor).
All prestigious rooms will be restored.
Basement: Existing kitchen and a small spa with gym (internal swimming pool, turkish bath and sauna).
Ground floor: 2 double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms (18,55 e 19,22 mq).
First floor: 2 double bedrooms (14,58 e 16,47 mq) and a large suite (31,94 mq).
Second floor: 3 large family rooms (23,63; 26,00 e 20,80 mq) and 1 single room (10,53 mq), laundry storage room.
Roofs have been recently restored.
The Park needs maintenance.
