With more than one million square kilometres of land area and a population of less than 50,000, the Northwest Territories is about as wild as it gets. It's certainly not an easy area to visit (many places are fly-in, many roads are gravel, and distances are vast) but for those who make the effort, there are incredible things to experience.
With boreal forest, arctic tundra, some of Canada's greatest waterfalls, a vibrant indigenous culture, and boundless wilderness, this is an adventurers paradise!
We explored the NWT from August 16 - September 1st, 2017!
Canada's Road to 150 is a 150-day Canada-wide multi-media road trip celebrating Canada's 150th birthday by exploring the uniqueness of this country provincially and collectively while answering the question; What makes Canada special?
We will drive to and through every driveable province and territory, showcasing Canada's natural beauty and regional attractions while interviewing Canadians of all cultures and backgrounds, including local celebrities, immigrants, refugees, and everyday rural and urban Canadians. There are few places in the World that match our Scenery and freshwater fly fishing. In addition there is the potential of catching Trophy Trout over 10 LBS each and everyday. It's not your typical sit and watch your indicator style of fly fishing either. We strip large minnow patterns, which trout destroy on impact. One thing you will want to do is always have a firm grip on your fly rod because the strikes from these massive fish could separate you from it. During the month of June all of the Streams along the Pacific Northwest of Canada are in Freshet. Freshet by definition means; the flood of a river from heavy rain or melted snow. Nonetheless, In our area this is caused by snow melt in the mountains. While the Rivers are high and dirty we switch gears to the large lakes where these streams enter the lakes. The streams brings lots of feed, this in turn gathers the attention of hungry Trout. It's as if they are playing catch with everything that hits the lake and it's a race or the other fish will get it. Now, that sounds like fun doesn't it? Furthermore, be prepared for some of the best Fly Fishing in British Columbia Canada.
