Besseggen

Vågåmo is the administrative centre of Vågå municipality, in Oppland county. Norway. Its population is 1,463. The village is located at the outlet of Lake Vågåvatn in the Otta Valley. The Otta River and Highway 15 pass through the village. Vågåmo is home to a local museum, the Jutulheimen Bygdemuseum, and to the historical Klones farm which is also the location of Nord-Gudbrandsdalens videregående skole , which specializes in agriculture. The Klones farm dates back to the 15th century and has been the location of the school since 1919. There are also many horses and a store named Jutulbue there.

Jotunheimen is a mountainous area of roughly 3,500 km² in southern Norway and is part of the long range known as the Scandinavian Mountains. The 29 highest mountains in Norway are all in Jotunheimen, including the very highest - Galdhøpiggen . Jotunheimen straddles the border between the counties of Oppland and Sogn og Fjordane. Jotunheimen contains Jotunheimen National Park, which was established in 1980 and covers an area of 1,151 km². Hiking the Besseggen Ridge | VISIT NORWAY

The narrow and steep path up the Besseggen Ridge in Norway can take your breath away. So can the view from the top.

The hike takes 6-8 hours including breaks. It's recommended for experienced hikers, or with a guide. The ridge is steep and can be windy. If you are planning you first mountain hike, it might be a good idea to choose an easier alternative than Besseggen or join a guided trip.

HOW TO GET THERE
There are two options for getting to Besseggen. You can either start hiking from the Gjendesheim tourist lodge or take the boat from Gjendesheim to Memurubu and start your hike from there. The latter is the easiest route. To ensure you get on the boat, it is wise to reserve tickets in advance. You can stay overnight at Gjendesheim or Memurubu, and start the day fresh and fit the next morning.

Jotunheimen is a largely undisturbed mountain area in Eastern Norway, covering an area of roughly 3,500 square kilometres. The mountain range is Norway’s most popular national park and includes the country’s two highest mountains Galdhøpiggen (2,469 metres above sea level) and Glittertind (2,464 metres above sea level), as well as waterfalls, rivers, lakes, glaciers, and valleys.
The area has the largest concentration of mountains higher than 2,000 metres in Northern Europe and offers some of the most scenic hiking on the continent – everything from short strolls to multi day hut to hut epics.
One of the highlights is the path along the narrow Besseggen ridge from Memurubu lodge to Gjendesheim lodge. The view southwards over an emerald coloured Gjendevatnet lake (984 metres above sea level) and northwards over Bessvatnet lake (1,373 metres above sea level) is a real treat.

Some memories from our tour in 2018. We start from Otta and end in Sogndal at Lems Bungalows. We travel over Sognefjellet, Tindevegen, through Øvre Årdal and to Sogndal.

We stayed at Lems Bungalows which had good cabins, each cabin with bathroom and shower. We had three cabins to share.

We stopped for coffee at beautiful Liasanden

Had a late lunch in Øvre Årdal

My Norway, August 2018 4K

Several days in Norway in August, 2018 as seen by the eyes of first time visitor. Traveled by car forming the triangle - Oslo - Bergen - Trondheim - Lillehammer - Oslo. Norwegian fjords are probably the most beautiful terrestrial place on Earth. Not pretending to have seen everything I've seen enough to fall in love with the country and the people that live there. It is not only enough to live in such a beauty surrounding you but to also keep it. I could feel that locals do love the place where they live and this is golden.
