The village is located at the intersection of the European route E06 and European route E75 highways. The villages of Karlebotn and Nesseby lie a short distance to the south and east from Varangerbotn.The band The BlackSheeps and previous lead vocalist Agnete Johnsen comes from Varangerbotn. The Varanger Sami Museum is located in the village and it shows the cultural history of the Sami people in the Varanger region.

The Varanger Sami Museum is a museum for Sami culture and history in Varangerbotn in Nesseby, Finnmark.The museum is working with the Sea Sami history along Varangerfjord, Sami prehistory and contemporary Sami culture. The museum was established in 1983, and has since 2012 been a part of the joint museum Deanu ja Várjjat Museasiida.The main building was erected in 1994, inspired by traditional Sami architecture. The main building contains a basis exhibition, the children's room Stállobiedju and temporary exhibitions. VSM is also maintaining the cultural landscape and the excavations at Mortensnes .
