Alassio is a town and comune in the province of Savona situated in the western coast of Liguria, Northern Italy, approximately 80 kilometres from the French border. Alassio is known for its natural and scenic views. The town centre is crossed by a pedestrianised cobbled road known as the Budello.
The town has sandy beaches, blue sea and many bars and restaurants on the sea front. Alassio has also a pier known as Molo di Alassio or Pontile Bestoso which offers views of the town. Alassio is situated on the Riviera di Ponente coast, and it has a small tourist port (porticciolo) named Luca Ferrari. It was also known as a health resort in winter and a bathing place in summer, and has many hotels.
Alassio is one of the Italian Riviera’s best kept secrets. Once a top destination for Brits, it no longer draws the teeming crowds as it used to, outshone by its chicer French counterparts. Yet, this is possibly what makes it so perfect for a romantic getaway: what better way to connect with your other half than being immersed in a place that hosts few English-speaking tourists? Surrounded by the romantic Italians, you’ll truly get to experience Alassio as a local and maybe even pick up a few pointers. Indeed, the Italians know best when it comes to food, wine, and how to have a good time. Alassio’s silky beaches, sparkling clear water, and deep green olive hills are the perfect setting for a romantic getaway.
One of the best things about a holiday in Alassio is the fact that it is very easy to do very little. The stunning bronze-grey silky beach is shared among the various boutique hotels lining the shore and each has its private slice of the beach for its guests. You’ll be assigned a deckchair and a parasol (ombrellone in Italian) for the entirety of your stay and you’re free to come and go as you please. It’s very tempting therefore to spend your days soaking in the golden rays, settling down with a good read, and taking an occasional dip in the deliciously cool and mesmerizingly clear sea. The best thing is that you’re expected to do nothing more.
If you’re someone who needs to be out and about exploring, don’t fret, as there are many wonderful hiking trails of varying lengths and intensities. The trails take you up through the beautiful olive-clad hills and will reward you with stunning views of the coastline. Your hotel should be able to provide you with a map of all the different hiking trails. The views from Santuario Madonna della Guardia and Monte Bignone are both particularly spectacular. The hike up to Monte Bignone takes about two hours and a half there and back and is quite steep and rocky at some points so make sure to wear proper hiking boots and bring lots of water. Once you’re at the peak, you’ll be treated to a panoramic view of Alassio, the neighbouring town of Albenga, and of course the sparkling expanse of sea.
Alassio is also the perfect base for day trips. You’re a short train ride away from the glamorous Monte Carlo or the cosmopolitan Nice, which means that you get to experience these iconic cities without paying the exorbitant prices for accommodation. You might also want to visit traditional Italian towns in the sea-hugging Liguria region such as Zuccarella, an old market town with an arched bridge which made the cover of Time magazine in 1960, and Colletta di Castelbianco, a medieval hilltop town.
The English composer Edward Elgar wrote a concert-overture called In the South (Alassio) whilst staying on holiday in Alassio in the winter of 1903–04. Alassio is featured as the location for a holiday in the 1944 film The Children Are Watching Us. It is also the location of some scenes of The Pleasure Garden (film), The Snorkel and Inkheart (film). The painter Felix Nussbaum (1904–1944) stayed in Alassio in 1934 and it appears on many of his lighter paintings.

Capri is an island off the coast of Naples with Towering limestone cliffs
and famous Turquoise waters (with legendary blue grotto which was highlighted in the book Red Sails To Capri, by Ann Weil.
Hot resort since Roman times and in the 1950's became a top tourist destination.
AnaCapri was a favorite of French composer Claude Debussy. A quieter pace prevails where luxury hotels like the Capri Palace cater to weddings as well and spa seekers. The swimming pool has underwater glass viewing windows. The village has a pedestrian walkways which meanders between eye popping buildings and restaurants bursting with blooms like bougainvillea on steroids. There is of course pizza by the rectangle (no slices) and enormous lemons which where the pulp is used in a refreshing lemon and olive oil salad.
In the town of Capri, things get a lot busier. Fiats specially outfitted with open tops brings passengers up from Marina Grande where ferries arrive throughout the day from Sorrento and Naples.
But the biggest crowd bringer are the cruise ships which tender in thousands of passengers turning Capri into one long line like at Disneyland on the 4th of July. Troops of tourists follow paddle swinging guides through the narrow streets of Capri often causing traffic jams where the most robust tourists survive. Capri has some of the most exclusive jewelry, clothing and home assessory shops anywhere but an owner confided to me that during the time when the ships unload their passengers on the island they could close their doors and not have missed a sale. This is, for the most part, a tee shirt and gelato customer.
So how do you see Capri while avoiding the daily rush? Since the crowds usually arrive by 10:30 AM and depart by 4 PM the best strategy is to shop early or late take the funicular down when the crowds are going up the hill and go up when the crowds are coming down in the afternoon.Have lunch a little off the beaten trail.
Aurora, one of Capri's oldest restaurants. Delicious salad like one with fresh cherry tomatoes, argula and slices of Parmesan make for a great starter. The pizzas are prepared in a special oven and the super thing crusted pizza a l'aqua is made with mozzarella cheese and pepperocini spice. Its not on the menu but they'll make it for you if you ask ... and ask you should. Also try the homemade fresh sorbets.
In the evening a classic place to dine is the Quissiana Hotel and the Rendezvous Bar. Besides sushi ... they have wonderful, classic Italian dishes with a twist such as the fresh local crab, tagoltelli with summer truffles and lemon, or ravioli filled with ricotta and a spicy tomato sauce.
No mater how you see Capri, do see it. even with the crowds it is a shimmering gem in the Tyrrhenian sea.

The canal port of Cesenatico is still today the true backbone the soul of the city life, of the commerce of the city. There are the boats of the modern fishing flotilla, but it is also here that overlook the hotels with picturesque views and restaurants famous for their seafood cuisine. The port has always been the main axis on which, over the centuries, the country, now Municipality, of Cesenatico developed, first as a place of fishermen and mercantile traffics, then as a tourist place.
The canal port already traced back to the early fourteenth century, was built two centuries later on a project by Leonardo Da Vincion behalf of the Borgias, at the time lords of Romagna. Da Vinci was in Cesenatico to September 6, 1502 at 15 hours, as he himself notes in the travel journal , known as Code L .
The same manuscript contains a drawing by Cesenaticotaken from the top of the ancient fortress (lost in the Second World War), and above all the relief of the Porto Canale, accompanied by precise measurements. Leonardo Da Vinci solved the age-old problem of silting the entrance, modified the orientation and length of the individual palisades and widened the connected basins, so that the sea water could enter and accumulate, blocked by movable partitions, and then flowed out with rapidity during the low tides and with the outflow to keep the entry free. Today the most ancient and particular part of the Canal hosts the floating Museum of the Marineria. In the floating section are collected the prototypes of the boats from the upper and middle Adriatic, with the colored sails to the third.
In 2005, the port was renovated by inserting the so-called vincian doors, a sort of dam that closes the channel in the event of high tides in order to avoid overflowing the canal that in recent years had caused serious damage to the surrounding areas. In any case, today we can say that the Porto Canale Leonardesco is the beating heart of Cesenatico where art, culture and entertainment mix together .

While taking a ton of winding backroads, accidentally going on some random person's property, trekking about 100 meters towards where we thought it may be then turning around, and finally fine tuning our GPS to take us where we needed to go, we found this awesome area to swim around in for the day!!!
