Visit Murray, Ky. in 2014
Located just a short drive from Kentucky Lake and Land Between the Lakes, Murray was named the Friendliest Small Town in America by Rand McNally and USA Today. The town offers small town charm combined with a progressive university attitude. The barn quilt trail of Calloway County is a popular attraction in the region, along with Murray's historic downtown.

Kentucky State Parks Adventure Quest Unbridled Spirit Winners
This video was sent in by Dave Roelfs' team, participating in the 2013 Family Adventure Quest photo scavenger hunt. The final quest was a special PRIZE quest that was to depict the most creative, enthusiastic, pure Unbridled Spirit of the entire team at any iconic Kentucky State Park building or landmark. The chosen photo will receive a special additional prize. Well, Team REGS not only shared the winning photo, but also supplied us with this short video clip of their unbridled spirit.
Reddish Knob: Awesome Views from Shenandoah Mountain
At 4397 feet elevation, Reddish Knob is the highest point of Shenandoah Mountain. It is the 22nd highest peak in Virginia and the 8th highest for West Virginia. Although you can hike to Reddish Knob from at least 3 different trailheads, you can also drive right to the summit. Short on time, I opted for the road trip in this mini adventure. Located along the Virginia and West Virginia state line, in the George Washington National Forest, the ridge line of the mountain in this area divides Augusta County, Virginia and Pendleton County, West Virginia. I drove west of Harrisonburg, Virginia out to the national forest and headed up the mountain. Once arriving to the state line and the crest of the mountain, I took a left onto a forest road, winding mainly on the Virginia side at first, then switching over to mainly the West Virginia side before finally climbing up and running along the crest of the ridge and then circling around to the summit of Reddish Knob. This was once the site of a fire tower, whose piers remain, as well as a large parking area and open summit. Magnificent views in all directions, including the spine of Shenandoah Mountain, the Rockingham County high point at Flagpole Knob on Slate Springs Mountain, the upper Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains towards the east, the southern tip of Massanutten Mountain, and spectacular views of the Allegheny Mountains towards the west, including the awesome Spruce Mountain. The U.S. Naval radar station is also easily visible in the valley below. Thanks for watching!
