The municipality comprises the villages of Dranouter, Kemmel, De Klijte, Loker, Nieuwkerke, Westouter, Wijtschate and Wulvergem. Heuvelland is a thinly populated rural municipality, located between the small urban centres of Ieper and Poperinge and the metropolitan area of Kortrijk-Lille along the E17. On 1 January 2006 Heuvelland had a total population of 8,217. The total area is 94.24 km² which gives a population density of 87 inhabitants per km². De vestingen van Ieper zijn de best bewaarde van ons land. Hun verhaal begint tien eeuwen geleden, toen de stad ontstond aan de oevers van de Ieperlee. Eerst waren de vestingen niet meer dan een aarden wal met grachten. Later kwamen er stenen muren en torens. Nog later groeiden ze uit tot een complex geheel van bastions, voorversterkingen, grachten en muren.De route start aan het onthaalcentrum De Kazematten, waar je ook de gratis tentoonstelling over tien eeuwen vestingen in Ieper kan bezoeken.

At easter, we sped a few days in the Westhoek in Belgium. Lots of sunshine, good food, nice hikes, interesting places.

Tijdens deze korte wandeling (2 kilometer) ontdek je alle bezienswaardigheden van luilekkerstad Lo. Blikvangers zijn de Westpoort met Caesarsboom, de belforttoren, de gotische Sint-Pieterskerk, de middeleeuwse duiventoren en het pittoreske marktplein in het luilekkerstadje aan de oevers van de Lovaart.
